This is one of the main reasons why we don't do a tree. My dear Sherry kitty was well known for getting into everything and Christmas decorations were one of the worst for this! You would not believe how quickly a cat (especially that cat!) can un-decorate a tree....

We've always had cats, and rarely have had a problem with them getting into the tree or decorations. Once in a while, one will take a swipe at something dangling, but otherwise, we've trained them with a stern NO and threat of having a kleenex box thrown at them - it's always worked!

Artificial Tree for me. I can't be bothered with all that mess at the end of the season but the real ones do smell really good. There is now spray that you can buy to spray on the tree to smell like the real one lol.

Fake Tree all the way and proud of it I had the real ones when I was a kid, but when it came to us getting older, my parents decided to get the fake one. Love my fake one. My DH parents got it for us when we got our new house. Lights already built in! and easy to put up.

we totaally put candy canes on our tree! i bought this glass ornament a few years ago - its a pickle! you hide it somwhere on the tree and the kids have to find it and they get a prize. hopefully thats how you play it *shrug* always gets a giggle when i bring out the christmas deocrations. i have lots of really beautiful glass ornaments that were my grandmothers and my mom's that i can't put on the tree anymore since the kids like to pull off the ornaments almost every morning and examine them. so for now its kids crafts ornaments, plastic diego/dora ornaments and a few plastic ones i pick up here and there after christmas.

Always had a real tree growing up until my little sister was born (crawling baby and my mom was highly allergic). I would love a real one myself but now I'm allergic too (sigh) but it's our (bf and I's) first christmas together so time to start a new tradition! We will go pick something together, a small tree would be fine with me.

My dear Sherry was undeterred by everything I tried... a firm NO!, physically moving her away, orange oil and other deterrent smells, spraying water, tossing a balled up sock, you name it. Counting to 3 worked sometimes, but was not 100% reliable and never worked when she had her mind set on something. That cat would do what she wanted with defiance; she was like a toddler with claws (I should also say that the other cat is easily deterred and never causes a problem this way... I think it was a personality thing.)

I went to ComicCon here this spring and almost bought some dalek ornaments; too bad there was no way on earth I was going to pay the exorbitant prices they were demanding, though

its not that dh didn't want to have christmas but i insisted on moving with little notice because there were sooo many issues with our old place and i was worried about our kids health/safety if we stayed there. the kids are still gonna have a great christmas even if dh and i dont get any gifts ourselves

Oh My Goodness you're the first person I've met who does this also!

We've done this for 10 years and I've done it with DD's preschool class for the last 2. Always a big hit. We let the kids take turns finding it and everyone gets a prize. This year I have play-doh and gummies for prizes for DD's class.
