Police puzzled by men injured on Montreal Road

Ottawa police are trying to determine how two men were seriously injured on Montreal Road early Friday morning. They were found within minutes of each other in different locations on the same stretch of road.
Police could not say if the men had been hit by cars.
The first man was found by city workers at 3:20 a.m. on Montreal Road between Carsons Road and Bathgate Drive. He was bleeding, but conscious when they found him.
The workers had him sitting in their truck when police arrived.
Paramedics treated him and took him to hospital. Five minutes later, a second man, aged 40, was found crumpled on the shoulder of the road farther east near the overpass at Highway 174, on a stretch of road where there is no sidewalk.
He was unconscious, and was rushed to hospital.
