Want to save on your electricity bill with a teenager in the house? Instead of having them pay room and board, ask them to pay the electricity bill instead. You'll soon see them running around turning off lights instead of leaving them turned on lol.... one family managed to reduce their electricity bill by 30% using this method.

This idea is interesting because it makes it look easy to start saving. I mean, who can't spare a dollar or two. Having said that, assuming someone would start this in January, who would have $200 in December to spare at Chrismat time?

I think it's a great way to start until you reach the level you're comfortable at. If you manage to reach $25/week and stay there, you'll get the same results after a year.

lol we have had to use the paper towel coffee filter in a pinch, works great! One thing I have found great for cleaning the microwave is heating up a bowl of water with a few drops of lemon juice. (or a slice of lemon). Everything just wipes clean!

NP! I got the idea from that show "How Clean is Your House". I don't think it's on anymore, but they were always cleaning with things like vinegar, salt, baking soda, etc.

A few money saving tips I've been using the past month:
If you have a box of crackers that no one is eating, put the contents into the blender and use the crumbs for any recipe that calls for bread crumbs. I discovered a box of Kashi Fire Roasted Vegetable snack crackers in my cupboard that expired a while ago. The package was sealed and the contents tasted great so I blended the bunch this morning and put the contents into the freezer.

Any time you cook veggies and need to discard any liquid, save the liquid...just let it cool and add to a container in the freezer that is labeled for soup stock.

If a sauce recipe calls for milk, use half water/half milk....you won't notice the difference.

Well I enjoyed this. I'll be saving money on cooking spray in my grocery budget. All you need is a spray bottle and 1 part olive oil to 4 to 5 parts filtered or distilled water. Make sure your bottle is clean or sterilized. How easy is that.

Easily remove sand from your hands by "washing" them with baby powder! This works great for cleaning kids up after playing in the sand box as well!
