I have had bird feeders for decades and enjoy seeing the birds there every day. I have feeders in front yard and several just off the kitchen patio door. I feed black oil sunflower seeds, suet and peanuts. Anyone else into backyard birding and feeding?

I am and I swear sometimes the birds eat me out of house and home. I feed them regular seed with no corn, suet, black oil sunflower seeds and peanuts. The Blue Jays call to me every morning for their peanuts every morning between 7 - 8. I throw them peanuts in the driveway so I can watch them from the front door.
In the winter I get Blue Jays, Nuthatches, Northern Flickers, Cardinals, Chickadees and of course Sparrows.

The birds here (and squirrels!) have a buffet every morning . I keep three feeders filled with black oil sunflower seeds, one with Nyger seed, and sprinkle millet, ground walnuts, and nyger seed on the snow a little ways away from the feeders. I work in a deli and get to take home day old bread rolls. I slice it down the middle, poke holes through the center, and smear pure pork lard and peanut butter onto them. I then dip them in all sorts of stuff eg. nyger seed, ground walnuts, raisins, sunflower seeds, millet, cornmeal, and rabbit food to name a few. I hang them all along a tree line on the side of our yard. I love waking to the symphony every morning of the birds waiting on their breakfast (although I can also hear my older son cussing because his window is right next to the feeding station, ).

snuffaluffagus - wow that is some buffet you provide, very impressed with your efforts and offerings.

Darth Penguin - there have been few sightings of Snowy owls in our area, we went for a drive to catch a glimpse but no luck. Several years ago we went to OWL woods on Amherst Island and saw 2 snowies, wonderful to see.

It's the least I can do, Mickey, for all the pleasure they bring me . Even the squirrels and, sometimes, the odd field mouse too, lol.

My dad and I put out some seed [no nuts due to allergies] every few days. It's weird.. as I get older I'm taking pleasure in the little things.. I got so excited seeing [they only] male cardinal in our yard a few weeks ago.

    anywho!

We've got about 6 blue jays, a handful of chick-a-dee's, 3 woodpeckers, a male cardinal, about 6 dove looking birds [need to get apicture and grab my book next time], saw a few nuthatches last weekend.. There's a few other birds I've seen but don't know what they are..probably going to grab the bird book before i leave for class tomorrow♥

A Red tailed hawk was sitting in oak tree behind our fence - he was birdwatching our backyard feeders. All the smaller birds scattered when he arrived.

Yeah i've got tons of birdfeeders, they're great to watch. We get a lot of cardinals, bluejays, and yellow finches.
My cat also loves watching them...good thing there's glass !

Does anyone know an economical way to buy birdfood for the outdoor birdds.... I am finding they eat quite a bit ... I am in the city and have blue jays and chickadees .... I also have an occasional rabbit eating the leftovers on the ground... unfortunately a local cat tries to visit when I dont see him ... but most times I scare it away.
