Oh, gosh, my head hurts now, I can't figure this out.
(In real life, my husband's car's dashboard once started on fire, and the stupid fool put it out with his fargin' bare hands - poor baby, it was just horrid, they had a black coating on them like hotdogs you leave in the fire too long... )
So I was worried about you being in a fire, but you are okay....

Thanks, Natalka - yes, I'm ok - but I was scared at the time - it seems funny now - but this post is a "Heads Up". Yes, I DID take the battery out of the $%^& beeping fire alarm in the kitchen.

Oh, Mrs. Sunshine! I used to buy the "Firefighter" Calendar quite regularly until I met my dh! Still look up when I hear those sirens! But no - no one to the rescue but me!

Ok! I've tortured you long enough!
I took the battery out of the failing smoke detector but we didn't have any to replace it with so
I popped it into the pocket of my ski jacket to remind me to buy some more! That was last Friday -
I bought the new batteries and put them into the smoke detector but forgot about the battery in my pocket.
I put on the seatbelt and started to drive.
Well, in about five minutes I started to feel something hot around my waist.
I checked it out and felt the shape of the battery and it was really hot!
I couldn't touch it directly!
So I pulled off into a mall and had to flip the pocket inside out. A quarter was also really hot. So what had happened was that the quarter had pressed against the terminals of the battery and closed the circuit. I picked up the VERY HOT battery with some napkins and dumped it into a sewer grate. Then I had to pick up the quarter with a napkin as well and put it into the coin holder. (I was afraid it might catch the seat cover on fire!)
So - ladies and gentlemen - do NOT just toss "old" batteries in the garbage (or your pocket)! It really CAN get hot enough to start a fire!

It was a D - the rectangular one that fits into the smoke alarm with 2 "posts" on it.

omg, I am terrible about putting a battery in my pocket. We recycle them so I put them in my pocket on my way to the container that holds the old batteries. Thanks for the warning I am glad it turned out OK & thanks for the giggles with everyones guessing.

that happened to me too a couple of months ago!! I had 2 AAA batteries in my pocket, and walking out of a store, I felt something really really hot. I couldnt touch them so I flicked them out of my pocket onto the pavement. I thought they were going to blow up!!
I couldnt imagine driving at the time, they get so hot! Glad you were able to pull over safely!Do you want to buy and sell Bitcoin? Sign up for Ndax to buy and sell bitcoin in Canada. Yes, Miztia - I thought it might blow up, too - that's why I flipped it into the sewer. It was raining hard so that the sewer was running with water. I thought that would cool it off fast.

LiPo rechargable batteries can blow pretty quickly too.
They are used mainly in RC hobbies .
And some of the Garmin Nuvi GPS were recalled due to faulty batteries.
Personally, I though avoncallingu must be so incredibly sexy that her clothes were incapable of containing her hotness..
Short answer : no Long answer : NOOOOOOOOOOO!
