Thread: New Job for the New Year @ 2X the Pay
-
Sat, Dec 22nd, 2012, 10:59 AM #1
I had worked for 25 years as in a clerical position in a school which had wonderful hours (6.5 hrs per day) and holidays for raising a family. With my last "chick" leaving for University in June, I was finding my house pretty quiet and empty so I began looking around for extra part-time work on weekends.
Thursday I got a job offer 2 days on 2 days off with 12 hr days. So now officially have a "full-time" job. Definately more hours and less holidays but also works out to 2x the pay. BONUS because of my age and years of service I also will get a small pension!!This thread is currently associated with: N/A

First of all congratulations for a new job. This in itself is great. Add double pay and it is terrific. Do you have a secret formula you can share about how to find a job? Thank you for posting.

walkinglady, I think there are jobs, but the employers are not putting them in the paper or on online work sites. I think networking is the way to go. For example, the guy who runs the morning indoor walking track started chatting me up to see what work I do. They he just came out and asked for a job for his daughter. And, I actually knew that there was a part time job coming up and gave him the heads up on how the resume should look.

Congratulations! Different time of life - Different time for working! Enjoy those days off! If you're on your feet - make sure you have some "serious" shoes after working in a clerical position for so long!

Thanks for all the congratulations everybody. Yes, the job never hit the internet this time and it was through networking. But I had applied in May 2012 & didn't get even an interview. Applied again in August and was interviewed and told I was 2nd they would be hiring again in 4-6 months. Took 2 courses that I knew I would need (which my employer at the time paid for - after 25 years with them I don't feel guilty) and I threw my resume in again after the 4 months was up (Dec.). So 3rd time lucky but did not sit on my butt and wait, took courses in the previous 4 months. Now the company is sending me for 4 more courses and paying my wage while I take them and paying for the courses.
