My Year End Financial Brag.

I just wrote a cheque to pay off my American Express card which will be the first time in 10 years that I have completely paid off the balance on that particular card.

I only use it for shopping at Costco but I found that no matter how much I paid each month when I got the next months bill I had barely put a dent in the balance or worse the total went up.

Since I started couponing over a year and a half ago I started spending less and less money at Costco which has allowed me to pay down the balance.

I was also able to pay off my Mastercard this year as well.

Most of this was because of couponing but also paying off our cars this year helped a lot.

This year I'm planning on getting my Visa paid off and then start tackling the big one, my line of credit.

The only thing that will stop me from accomplishing this is that my husband wants to buy a truck.

I told him to start shopping around for the best deal because our days of paying retail are OVER.

I'm hoping he'll be reasonable and be willing to buy a used truck a couple of years old.

Anyway 2013 is going to be all about saving as much money as I can and paying off as much debt as possible.

What a fabulous brag!! You deserve 2 pats on the back! What you have done this year is no small feat; now that you have gotten in the swing of saving (thanks to couponing), you just keep on going. congratulations on your huge accomplishment, a suggestion is to consider transfer your balance to a lower interest card, some card offer a lower interest for six months. That can save u a lots as I think creditcard interest is an arm and a leg

Tackling debt is a serious matter. Congratulations on getting results! If I may suggest: pay down the higher interest debt first meaning credit cards, and then the line of credit. Usually credit cards are 20-30% interest while the line of credit is around 10%. Sometimes people use their line of credit to pay credit card balances and save a lot in the process. I wish you great financial success in 2013 and the years to come. Thank you for posting.

Tell your DH to bargain with the car guys/gals, even when buying used. If they won't come down on the price, ask about gas coupons, or add on accessories (floor mats, truck liner, winter wiper blades, washer fluid, truck bra/deflector thingy). Ask for as many freebies as possible. Even ask for 6 free oil changes.

Congrats! I'm sure you'll be done with the other debts in no time, now that you can apply what you were paying towards your cars and other monthly minimums to them!

I remember how it felt when I paid off my last balance-carrying card. There really is nothing to compare to the feeling of being bad-debt free.

Have hubby check out places like repodepo.ca and other reputable auctioneers - paying a mechanic to come look at what you're interested in bidding on will save you incredible amounts of money if you go that route (always get a UVIP, of course!).

That's what its all about. Finding ways to spend less. Pay off debt. But still get to treat yourself. Couponing can do all of that. It takes time and patience but so well worth it. You are doing amazing. Look how far you have come already:)

wow!! way to go!!! what an accomplishment!!! Do you ever what Until Debt do us part? I love that show. Do the jars as Gail suggests. Tell your husband to save for his truck. Find one that you can afford. The insurance is a killer with the big engines in some trucks. He better call and ask how much the insurance is going to go up. He may need to wait until your other 2 credit cards are paid off. If your cars are working well don't buy a truck. Plan your purchases as Gail says.
