Weird Question - How to Preserve Art Made with Spices?

My kids and I have been using all types of different spices and what not in our art work lately. Everything from coffee to basil leaves to cinnamon and shredded coconut. The problem is that every summer we get those tiny little red ants, and I am concerned they will be drawn to the art work no matter where I put it (last year they managed to make their way down into our basement). Is there something I can do to the art work that would deter them? We've tried everything to stop the ants from coming in the house in the first place, but we live in a triplex so it seems even more difficult to keep them out.

I don't think the ants would be particularly interested in spices. They usually go after sweet things, like sugar.

The way to preserve this art depends upon how it's made. If the spices are glued to something flexible like construction paper it may be difficult to conserve. If the spices are glued to something hard like wood, then I would put clear spray paint over top. If it's something small then I would paint the item with clear nail polish. In the end putting something clear over top should help.

Maybe laminate it?

You've already gotten the answers I would've given: lamination (can be done at Staples or if you have a machine at home) or shellac (which you can buy at Michael's)
