Life is too short to read bad authors!
Sample from Chekhov:
In Oreanda they sat on a bench not far from the church, looked down on the sea, and were silent. Yalta was barely visible through the morning mist, white clouds stood motionless on the mountaintops. The leaves of the trees did not stir, cicadas called, and the monotonous dull noise of the sea, coming from below, spoke of the peace, of the eternal sleep that awaits us. So it had sounded below when neither Yalta nor Oreanda were there, so it sounded now and would go on sounding with the same dull indifference when we are no longer there. And in this constancy, in this utter indifference to the life and death of each of us, there perhaps lies hidden the pledge of eternal salvation, the unceasing movement of life on earth, of unceasing perfection.

almost finished with Denis Leary's book Why We Don't Suck
If nothing else I have learned a few new curse words from it. But mostly it was both entertaining and a little eye opening.
Still very glad I am not an American.

I gave up on that series @heartgirl99 . I read the first three and then abandoned it. Currently reading Fierce Kingdom by Gin Phillips and the above-mentioned Koontz book. I also have The Woman in the Window by AJ Finn in the queue.

I could never get into that series @heart girl. It remains the only books of Stephen King that I have not read. Glad you are enjoying it!

In the past 4 weeks:
I managed to finish reading Kevin Kwan's sequels to Crazy Rich Asians: China Rich Girlfriend and Rich People Problems (and Mom was keen to read all three books too). I'm ready for the Crazy Rich Asians film and popcorn this summer.
Read most of the non-fiction book When to Jump by Mike Lewis. Several case studies of what prompted people to change careers or jobs. Author is second-cousin to Sheryl Sandberg (I'll be looking for the Option B book she co-authored.)
Found the Toronto restaurant world/author biography fascinating in I Hear She's a Real B**** by Jen Agg.
Coincidentally, her Black Hoof restaurant will be closing in August.Last edited by Ciel; Sat, May 19th, 2018 at 04:38 PM.
