step back, breathe, and carry on without relying on them or letting them rely on you. Sometimes we get in a habit of expecting things and situations to go a certain way, and when they do it compounds everything. If she wants to be part of your life then let it be on your terms. Be cordial, but don't be a pushover. You're worth way more than that and your well being needs to be in line before you can continue to help anyone else.

I agree with previous posts...sounds almost like my in laws. The minute my in laws would have balked at going to manadarin for their grandsons birthday, because its too expensive...I would have been like "alright, so i guess you can come by about 6:30 for cake and gifts!?" and left it at that. They can't afford, or don't want to spend that much? Then don't come...you can always see him after we are finished dinner!

Good solution - cake and gifts. AFTER Mandarin.

You come across like a very dedicated Mom. Peace, my online friend.

I saw in the opening post, how much you wanted to give your son the Mandarin dinner he wanted. That's what a Mom wants to do for her son. Yes!

He did not ask for a $500 gaming system. He did not ask for a $750 piece of technology.

He asked for Mandarin. I like him already.

I hope the rest of the week goes well for you.
Thanks for sharing so much with us!

    (((hugs)))

Yes, the weeknight idea sounds good. I did not think about that.

Great. I think Feb. 10 is Chinese New Year. I think Mandarin is doing their special until them. Your son will enjoy it.
