CO2 detector..please get one..

For a couple of weeks we have been smelling natural gas outside of the house and yesterday morning the carbon monoxide detector went off. Although these two things were not related we decided to call ATCO.

I knew there was a problem as soon as the guy walked in the door his sensor was going off. He told us if we had had pet birds they would be dead and we could not stay over night in the house.

We had some symptoms...headaches for me, queasy stomach for dd, and over all miserableness for d/h but with flu season here we thought it was the flu.

Fortunately the furnace is still under enhanced warranty so it is covered but I think the reason it go so bad was because the C02 detector was about 6 yrs old. Apparently they should be replaced every 3-4 yrs.

Don't delay...buy and install...

Apparently they are code in newer homes but they do need to be replaced every 3-4 yrs old and ours is 6 so I think that is why it got so bad before it went.

And although we live in an older home the furnace is not that old and still under warranty. So it can happen to anyone.

So glad you are safe! My parents have had CO detector for years. We should get one for our apartment. Everyone should. Carbon monoxide has no smell

So glad you are ok! We just replaced our smoke detectors with co and smoke detectors!

So glad your family is ok! I think every house should have a detector no matter what! Our house has no "risks" (no oil furnace, no attatched garage, no propane, etc.) but we still have 1 on each level of our home.

so glad to hear all is well... funny thing is about three weeks ago I bought my first co2 detecter and have it in the basement because I sometimes sleep down there.
