There are a couple of home shows coming up in the Toronto area, for anyone seeking inspiration or wanting to see a scheduled speaker:
The International Home and Garden show at the International Centre Feb. 21-23/2013

& The National Home Show March 15-24/2013 at the Direct Energy Centre:

It was Lowe's that had the news of hiring 1000 staff (mostly seasonal):

It's good that HD is hiring, but they need to think about the type of people they are hiring too. They must not pay all that well because the one near me has a huge influx of new immigrants working there. I don't have a problem with that per se, it's just that when I ask where things are, they very often don't have a clue what I am talking about, same would go for students....
HD is different than some other retail stores, people go there looking for some degree of expertise when tackling diy projects. I remember years ago, they actively recruited retired people who were knowledgeable of their departments and who added a lot of value to the corporation.

I'd love a job at Home Depot if they gave a staff discount. I seem to be there at least once a week thanks to our "fixer upper".

Reviving @Shwa Girl 's thread on spring hardware store jobs for the other chain!
Home Depot has announced it is looking to hire 6,000 employees across the country.
She expects most of the hiring will be done by the end of March. The company will be holding job fairs at all three Hamilton outlets on March 9 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Applications can also be made online via homedepot.ca/jobs.
Home Depot employs about 450 people at the three Hamilton outlets and about 28,000 nationally.Last edited by Ciel; Fri, Mar 4th, 2016 at 03:13 PM. Reason: spelling

Yet, whenever I go there, I can never find anyone to help me. They just pass the buck, when you finally get hold of someone to help you.
Not my department, Not my job, Let me page someone, Ask Customers Service etc - No one shows up after they page and you go to CS they send you back to the dept . Deliberately understaffed to save money. Stuff all over the place, so hard to find it, not well merchandised
Only interested in BIG sales, so if some small stuff you want or need, you are on your own and not important to them.
