Two health workers in Saudi Arabia have become infected with a potentially fatal new SARS-like virus after catching it from patients in their care - the first evidence of such transmission within a hospital, the World Health Organization said...
..."This is the first time health care workers have been diagnosed with (novel coronavirus) infection after exposure to patients," the Geneva-based U.N. health agency said in a disease outbreak update late on Wednesday.
The health workers are a 45-year-old man, who became ill on May 2 and is currently in a critical condition, and a 43-year-old woman with a coexisting health condition, who fell ill on May 8 and is in a stable condition, the WHO said.
France has also reported a likely case of transmission within a hospital, but this was from one patient to another patient who shared the same room for two days.
Scientists are on the alert for any sign that nCoV is mutating to become easily transmissible to multiple recipients, like SARS - a scenario that could trigger a pandemic.
Since nCoV first emerged and was identified in September 2012, the WHO says it has been informed of a total of 40 laboratory-confirmed cases worldwide, including 20 deaths.
Saudi Arabia has had most of the cases - with 30 patients infected, 15 of them fatally

When we're in the US for a month at a time, we eat very little meat because of the antibiotics they pump into their poor animals...but it's tough, and we still succumb to a good ol' McD's some days...{{cringe}}
Unless the world pays more attention to our indiscriminate use of antibiotics, for sanitizers, for trying to keep our "air pure", yet filling it with god-knows-what's-in-them sprays, gels, pods etc that manufacturers are telling are necessary for happy homes, for consuming "delicacies" that have never been proven safe for human consumption, I doubt we'll see an end to the proliferation of various viruses we're only beginning to see. It's an ice-berg...we're only seeing the tip: there's more to come, I'm afraid......

Hon.... I didn't want to fly overseas again because of the long flight; now I don't want
to fly overseas because I don't want to be with people I don't know, imprisoned on a
plane, breathing the same air they do! How frightening is that?!!
Hubby suggested yesterday that we book March again in Florida next year, since it's
been such a lousy "spring"......I'm not sure I want to, although I've been peeking at a
few homes there to rent....Question is: do I hate a long, drawn-out winter more or less
than I hate having to live and eat in the US for a month?!! :yikes:Then there's the 3-day
drive. With Jenny on my lap again...lol!!!

Hi, Shwa....yes, we shopped at Publix, but did most of our grocery shopping at Target, would you believe...and I LOVE that we can pick up wine and beer at a grocery store!!!
We were in Davenport last year, (in a subdivision right across from the Posner Mall where even I wasn't afraid to drive to..just cross 6 lanes of highway on a light and there was Target, JCPenny, a lovely bookstore...other small shops...very convenient!) in a very nice home in a gated community, 3br, fenced in-ground pool...I don't think we'll do DisneyWorld next year...oh. Wait. Of COURSE we will!! How could my hubby NOT bring me there!!? LOL!!
So Kissimmee would be fine, too...just not in Orlando...we'll see.....

LONDON (Reuters) - Four more people in Saudi Arabia have been infected with the SARS-like Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) virus and one of them - an elderly man - has died, the World Health Organisation (WHO) said on Friday.
The new infections, including in two health workers from Riyadh who have not reported any adverse symptoms, bring the worldwide total of confirmed cases of the respiratory disease to 170 with 72 deaths, the United Nations health agency said.
MERS first emerged in the Middle East in September 2012 and is from the same family as the SARS virus, can cause coughing, fever and pneumonia.
Cases have been reported in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Jordan, United Arab Emirates, Oman, and Tunisia as well as in several countries in Europe, and scientists are increasingly focused on a link between the human infections and camels as a possible "animal reservoir" of the virus.
