I'm so sorry about your dog Jasper:(
I'm so sorry about your dog Jasper:(
I have two crock pots (three actually but one is in storage...) and they don't have a timer. However, I put them on timer- an electric one. Thought it isn't precise, I use a timer that most people put on their lamps etc to turn on when they are away. Because there is a far amount of grace when cooking with a crock pot, I find that it works just find. Yep it is quite low tech- but it works!
Jasper, it is really hard to loose a pet. How are your boys doing with this? Thoughts are with you all...
Oh my, I could so see myself making that spelling mistake. My fav one I make is instead of typing Shut Down on many occasions have sent Sh*t Down in email. So now every December I get paranoid on emails.
Thanks for the suggestion, we need to look at getting a second slow cooker. Ours is quite a few years old and when we got it mom wanted the biggest one she could find. Which is great for certain dishes but for the most part it is too big for 2 of us.
Right now with mom not working we do not use it too often, we actually use ours the most in the summer. We do not have AC so we have to get creative with our cooking when it is hot especially since neither of us will use our band new BBQ. I think we might buy another new one this year that we can use.
Thanks the boys are dealing with it differently than dh and I, they do not like what is happening (no one does) and are dealing with it by putting space between jasper and them. Everyone deals with these things differently, I guess it's just how the boys are handling the situation.
Question # 2 for today: Do you brown you meat before putting it in your slow cooker?
I do, I like a brown crust to my meat and really do not enjoy the texture of the meat if it is not browned first.
We had to put down both of our dogs a couple years apart. They truly are a huge part of the family. I hope Jasper can go without suffering.
On a different note...is anyone else`s Forum pages huge? Everything else is the regular size, the blog and other websites. I can `t figure out what I did. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Hope you feel better! We're all fighting a bug here, too :( The last thing you feel like doing is cooking!!! I keep some frozen pizzas and KD on hand for nights like that.

I ADORE my slow cooker!!!! I use it once or twice a week and I'm sure I'll use it a lot more when I go back to work. I've adapted most of my recipes to be done in the crock pot. Mine doesn't have a timer, just a high, low, and keep warm setting... it's a Hamilton Beach, I think.
If I'm making chili or soup then no- to me, it defeats the point of the crock pot! However, I do brown beef roasts before they go in just because it gives it a deeper and more rich flavor.
Meal Plan- I'll have to work on it tomorrow, spent most of the weekend out and about!
