No...still procrastinating.
ours done and just received the refund last week, which is going back to our savings, used same amount to purchased RRSP.
Just did my tax return using Studio Tax. Easy Peasy. Fill in a few lines and it does the rest. Dont even have to do the Provincial and Federal Schedules, it fills them in based on the info you provide.
($6400.00 refund - very large RRSP contribution this year)
Still waiting on a t4 from my seasonal job...I give up...Just going to do my taxes when I go home for the Easter long weekend and get my dad to help me and use my ROE instead of a t4...It will be overstated by a few days of pay, but I guess better than not claiming it...Hopefully I have a decent refund because of school and everything so I can use the money towards first and last rent on a new place in a few months time.
we both received our refunds on monday :)
I got my refund yesterday! Time to buy a new TV :)
Okay so I tried to do my refund online but I can't find half the forms to fill out! I give up and am just mailing the freaking paper return. There is no place for me to input other income from doing photo shoots and tv/movies, and there was another form missing that I needed to fill out, plus it wanted me to defer my tuition payments which I never do. I figured it out on paper and come up with $800+ refund, when I tried to do it online with all the missing forms and stuff it said I only got like $100 back since it wouldn't let me fill out the other forms. I give up! Until they make filing taxes online easier to follow for people that have slightly more difficult forms I won't be switching to online. Spent two frustrating hours trying to track down the missing spots to no avail.
On a positive note the taxes are done! (minus my one missing t4 but dad told me if I ever receive the damn thing to just do an amendment since I only made around $1000 the three weeks I worked.)
I was doing it with studio tax. It didn't give me any option other than deferring my tuition either but yet I get a better refund if I claim it this year...I definitely couldn't figure it out. I'm just going to be old fashioned and mail it...May take longer but at least I am able to claim my "other" income and send in all the other forms I had to do extra that I couldn't get studio tax to give me.
The best one is ufile (for me). I always do my taxes on each software (I'm weird I know) just to see which one gives me the highest return. Ufile always does. I also always defer my tuition. I'm sure I would get a big refund if I didn't but I'm waiting for when I end up owing taxes to use my tuition amount. (I have about 15K saved up in provincial credits, and 15K in fed. credits at this point).
what does defering your tuition mean?
I finally did my taxes over the weekend, got a small refund back. Around what I expected since I don't make much currently and I told my employers to deduct the least possible income tax so I'm not giving the govt a free loan :P
It's basically just an option to use your tuition tax credit at a later day. You know how it asks you for your T2202 from your college, the money you paid for tuition is tax deductible, but depending on how much you make it may not make a difference if your income is low. You can save your credit (I'm not sure how many years) until you are in a position where you owe.
Well I did my tax return finally! No refund this year, but I am setting myself up for two very, very nice tax refund (>10k per year) over the next two years... yay loads of tuition tax credits and other big credits (NS has a graduate retention program that is $2500/year for university or $1250/year for college graduates for six years if you stay in NS)
We did our taxes already but we won't be submitting until the middle of April because we own money this year. lol.
I'm a part time student so honestly there is no benefit in deferring the amount so just claim it each year that way I don't forget about it!
For me because of the missing forms, tuition deferral, and no place for me to put my other income, it was better to do everything on paper and mail. This way I should be getting around $800 back instead of the $150 the tax software gave me with no option to input my missing income amounts and everything. My dad thinks it's because I have a sort of complicated return that they probably want you to pay money to use a program that will give you the option to claim things that don't have t4's...
Finally did mine over the weekend DH and I are getting about $3600 back. Most of that is because of daycare - it pushed me to a lower tax bracket. I really should look into the form that allows your employer to deduct less tax because you have daycare expenses
After filing their personal tax returns by April 30th, many
Canadians will again receive a tax refund.
This is indeed a very exciting program, and I'll explain it in
a Q & A format:
Q. What is a tax refund payment?
A. It’s money that the federal government will send to taxpayers.
Q.. Where will the government get this money?
A. From taxpayers.
Q. So the government is giving me back my own money?
A. Only a smidgen of it.
Q. What is the purpose of this payment ?
A. The plan is for you to use the money to purchase a
high-definition TV set, thus stimulating the economy.
Q. But isn't that stimulating the economy of China?
A. Shut up.
Below is some helpful advice on how to best help the
Canadian economy by spending your tax refund wisely:
* If you spend the stimulus money at Wal-Mart,
the money will go to China or Sri Lanka.
* If you spend it on gasoline, your money will go to the Arabs.
* If you purchase a computer, it will go to India,
Taiwan or China .
* If you purchase fruit and vegetables, it will go to
Mexico, Honduras and Guatemala.
* If you buy an efficient car, it will go to Japan or Korea..
* If you purchase useless stuff, it will go to Taiwan.
* If you pay your credit cards off, or buy stock,
it will go to management bonuses and they will hide it offshore.
Instead, keep the money in Canada by:
1) Spending it at yard sales, or
2) Going to hockey games, or
3) Spending it on prostitutes, or
4) Beer or
5) Tattoos.
(These are the only “truly” Canadian businesses still operating)
Conclusion:
Go to a hockey game with a tattooed prostitute
that you met at a yard sale and drink beer all day!
No need to thank me, I'm just glad to be of help.
Omg, we forgot 8l
I used ufile to do mine and file via netfile around the beining of March. I had my refund back and applied to student loans by the 15th of March. I would rather do my own than pay to have someone do it. If i'm worried i goofed I can take it in to H&R block for their free second look service.
I filed mine last month, got a small but appreciated return. :)
Still procrastinating but I do have plans to do them next Monday.
Just completed five tax returns here using simpletax.ca First time doing this stuff on line and I can't believe how EASY it was. We all get ALL our taxes back - yeah!!! My hubby and I donate a lot of money each year and are also in the lower income bracket so whatever taxes we pay comes back again. I guess what my elderly aunt told me years ago, rings true - "It's not what you earn but what you save"
If one uses the turbotax software, do you submit it online?.Havent filed in a while so a bit out of it.
next year i'm gonna do mine in april, don't know why i rushed through it on early march!
I said I was going to do our taxes today and so I did. Decided to actually come out of the stone age of paper and pencil and tried Studio Tax. As I am not a computer genius I had to do it twice as I could not figure out where to edit something.
Also gave up on trying to find tool deduction (only $34.00 and normally I would care) but it is now u filed too. Sure was a lot easier than I thought :) and of course DH owes. :(
Dh started doing our taxes on the weekend. He had a few questions that I needed to call in about, so I did that this morning. I am getting back MORE than we thought. I don't want to say a number until I received the cheque. I qualify for the Saskatchewan Graduate Retention program, plus I also have university write-offs still. Dh is getting back about $1,200. I am getting back much more than that. Plan on putting about 1/2 onto my student loan, not sure about the rest.
Tools as in for an apprenticeship/tradespersons? They are an employment expense so you put them on the T777 and need the information from your employer (form T2200). http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/tx/ndvdls/t...ddctn-eng.html If you have already filed I'd suggest you wait until you get your notice back then you can ask for an adjustment to include that information. You can do that either in writing or through My Account, if you have a My Account. I'm not sure in Studiotax how to enter the information but if they don't have any support you can always call eServices with CRA and they should be able to help you, though it can be a busy phone line this time of year :)
