Interesting Article, and I think it is accurate.I certainly have noticed decline in the dollar off amount of coupons as well as more buy 2 get 1 type of offers. I do still think it is worth it though, even for just health and beauty it is still a savings on the household budget.
It doesn't say if this is just manufacturers coupons or also includes store coupons.
When DH lived in the US he had a store points card which gave him "member" prices at their store (not Costco). The other chain in the area would print out coupons with your receipt based on what you buy. That store's coupons were amazing. You'd buy cereal and it would print you coupons for milk! Buy cheese, it would print coupons for crackers
I would notice the coupon values were really crappy. Not even worth cutting up a coupon for 35 cents WUB5 (no joke) when the store prints you good ones instantly. This was 3 years ago. If that is still the case, I can see why people are skipping
You are right. When we visited Amerifriends last year, we stopped at CVS Pharmacy. Their milk was the best deal in town, with the CVS card. Plus the CVS machine spit out coupons when you tap your CVS card. Was a great deal. Wish Shoppers would get on board with these kinds of deals too.
I think the Extreme Couponing show brought everything to a crazy fever, which has naturally slowed down. People were "gung ho" to try this new hobby out, bought crazy amounts of stuff they could get for free or next to it. Now some still have big inventories of these "freebies" which if they can't use up, will have to give them away or donate them before they expire. People can & do tire of things, and move on. It's more of a challenge to coupon this year, compared to last year, but still worth my time and effort as I feel I can still save alot of money, which I can put towards other things in my budget. My motto is, as long as I still enjoy doing it, I'll keep it up.
Yeah that made no sense to me. What does the post office have to do with pop and chips? At Meijer in the US, the coupons were related to what you purchase. Kind of like Metro's bonus airmiles coupons. They give them to you based on what you buy so you don't get ones you won't use.
I can't forget that Meijer gave me milk coupons for buying cereal/and vice versa
I love the Macy's coupons. Usually it's buy $25 and save $10 off regular price and reduced items purchased before 12 Noon. Many people who could not use all their coupons would go up to perfect strangers coming into the store, and offer their extra coupons, as they are leaving the store.:-)
And then, at about 1145, they would put extra cashiers on tills, with BAGGERS:omg: to make sure everybody in like could take advantage of the deal:shade:
