Salesman at Coach Counter in the Bay gave me a disgusted look

I went through the Bay to get into the mall, passed by the Coach counter, there was a guy sales there tidying up the display. I stopped at the counter and looked at the handbags for no more than 2 seconds at a far distance, did not touch any products. As I walked, the guy took a glance at my purse (no name, genuine brand, a little beat up) and rolled his eyes and gave me a dirty look like he was gonna puke. His expression says it all, like "what business do you have looking at coach bags? PLEASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSE !!!!!!!!!"

Yes, ever since I have kids and got laid off 4 years ago, I have not bought any brand name stuffs (at full price anyway) I do once in a while found some goodies at winners. But that doesn't make me any less of a person. I, as a mom and an active volunteer at school, devoted all my time, energy, effort and money to my kids. I always try to help and do my best whenever I could. I am very proud of what I am doing everyday. My kids' report cards speak for themselves, not just academically but personality-wise too.

Just because he gets to stand at a coach counter doesn't make him any taller than me ! I am not mad nor against anyone using brand name bags (they do make beautiful purses, that I agree completely), materials nowadays do not mean much to me as I have seen too much go by me too fast in life. I just want ppl to know I rather chose to be a good person, a great mom and use my time in a meaningful way rather than working my way to go around carrying something other ppl approved of.

Some people give some nasty regards just to be nasty.They dont know the person and personnal live so I understand your frustration but please dont take it personnal and let that ruin your day or mood.You are a good devoted person to what is important for you that it!!! :)

Yep, I get those looks all the time. I am usually dressed in jeans, baseball hat, hair in pony tail. I don't carry a purse, I hate them, but if I stop to look at anything that may appear to be "above my social level" I get dirty looks. Ignore them.

you're a great person and a great mom and when your kids grow up they'll wanna spoil their mama rotten for everything she did for them! you have a wealth of love surrounding you every day :D

I've always found the staff at the Bay to be really snobby. The first time I noticed was right out of high school when I was taking a year off and applying for jobs. At the time it hurt my feelings that they turned their noses up at my application. But I bet they're still working there.

I agree about the Bay. It's funny because I spend quite a bit of money on makeup and I'd assume they would want my business. I have the attitude now that if they are going to treat me like dirt, then why should I spend my money there. I just go elsewhere. A lot of those employees get paid on commission too.

That's funny because Coach employees(in the actual stores) are so nice. I'm pretty sure having your head stuck up your ass is a requirement to work at The Bay, especially in bigger cities where they actually sell stuff that's current/higher end merchandise and not from years ago(my Bay is still trying to get rid of stuff they brought in 2 years ago).

Don't worry about it. Things do eventually wear out, but people last. So ignore such foolishness.

Hehe that is me too. Jeans, sneakers, sweater or t-shirt, hair in pony tail. Very rarely make up. I do carry a purse though not because I want to or like to. It contains snacks and toys for my daughter. I know all about the dirty looks, get them often but I don't really care.

If you ever do buy a Coach bag, make sure he doesn't get your commission. Some people just don't know how to treat customers, whether you're looking, buying, or telling all your rich friends. I'm sure his employer will be greatly impressed with how you expressed your views on a public forum as well. :tongue: Happy customers tell one or two close friends. Unhappy customers tell every single person who will listen and that's irrepairable damage.

Once I went into Cartier and tried on a 7 carat oval diamond ring tagged at $780,000. There was no way I could have possibly afforded it, but she took the time to take it out of the case, handed it to me with a smile and gushed about how lovely it looked on me. Years later, I still tell everyone how wonderful Cartier is. The ring wasn't very pretty but I tell perfect strangers about my nice experience there and we *almost* bought DH's wedding band (probably the cheapest thing in the store).

On another occasion, I voiced my opinion about bad service I received about a store with a good reputation, documented names, times, dates, wrote letters, faxes, etc. (but kept all names private) and posted about my experience on a forum. They called store meetings about my situation and the store manager wanted to personally apologize. It almost cost the store about $1000 to fix the damages for me (over three major errors), but I ended up returning the item and they gave me a $100 gift as a gesture. (No, I did not get to pick out the gift, nor was it useful, but it was appreciated that they acknowledged their mistake and that it took six months to correct.)

I may be poor, but I am a person! :-)

I worked for high end store for quite sometime and I have to say that anyone who stereotypes like that has a very limited idea of where/who has money. That type of sales person can really cost a company some serious business.

PFFFTT on the idiot that obviously has a ridiculously high opinion of himself.

And the person with this snobby attitude is working retail? I wonder how much he makes.

Once I walked by the entrance of Tiffany & Co. and saw the security guards laughing and pointing at a girl with fluffy boots. I felt like telling them that her $20,000 engagement ring is paying your salary.... But, my internal voice said good help is hard to find and walked on.

If being snooty and feeling above someone makes people turn up their noses because of clothing, I suggest they go home and count how many paycheques stand between them and being the person they're laughing at.

sigh...yup, after I had my daughter and got lay off for 2 years, I had been using walmart bags to carry my stuff...don't see any problem with that., and is free advertisement for walmart too, ahahha......I don't care what other people think, they can think what ever they want. I rather save $$ for a better use, like their education in the future or new clothes for them.
