Bulk yeast?

Hello everyone! I hope this is in the correct forum!
I have a question!
I've been baking my own bread for years. I've been buying the jars of Fleishmann's yeast but I would like to start buying larger packages. Does anyone know where I can purchase yeast in bulk?
I do not have a Costco membership and I'm not near a Bulk Barn. I don't know where else to look.
I'd be quite happy to order online, but I can only seem to find US websites which charge way too much shipping for it to be worth the purchase.
Does anyone else here buy their yeast in bulk? If so, where's your go-to source?

I was going to say Costco, although you don't need a membership if you can pay with a Costco gift card. Some groceries will sell bigger packages of yeast that look like coffee cans and contain about 1 pound of yeast. Another alternative is to check out stores where they sell food in bulk like a natural food store.

Have you ever thought of using sour dough? You could have your own yeast making factory right there in your fridge. Once it's active, all you need to do is maintain is by adding flour and sugar.

I buy yeast in a package which looks in shape like a small pound of coffee, it's vacuum packed about the size of a small brick - probably a pound, I think; can't remember the weight. I cannot for the life of me remember the brand, I have it repackaged and in the freezer.
It costs between $6 and $7 - definitely a great deal.

I usually buy it at our local Co-op.

I haven't ordered from either of these two companies, but I sure might from the second one at some point.

I've bought the same block of bread machine yeast at Superstore. It's in an orange, blue and white foil package, vacuum packed (make sure you buy one that is hard, that hasn't sprung a leak). I keep it in the freezer after, keeps for a long time. I too forget the name, but pretty sure it says instant yeast on the package.

Get my block of yeast at Metro ussally near the bulk items,top shelf lol and I put it into a large peanut butter jar in the fridge, it lasts a long time.

I use a mason jar and a jar sealer for mine, put it in the freezer. It's at least a pound of yeast I think.

Any independent Italian bakery has bricks of fresh yeast you can buy in any size you want (they cut it by weight). I'd check Google but I bet you can freeze it

If you ask the bakery personnel (supervisor probably has more knowledge) they can assist you. At RCSS West they have yeast bricks they sort of look like butter but are packaged in white. I believe they are 1lb as well.

look at your wholesale/superstores for the blocks not too sure if you`d find them at your average grocery store.. i`ve bought the blocks in the past also without an issue.. they are perfectly sealed foil bag like a pound of coffee and are usually kept near or around the regular yeast

@torontogal12 - I don't think you can freeze fresh yeast, but thanks for the tip asking the bakery!
@bluerose - I haven't checked Metro yet, thanks!

I've checked my local IGA and Maxi. So far no luck. I will be at Super C soon and check there, but if I don't have find any I will definitely head over to a Metro (that's a bit more of a trip for me).
I was doubting it was possible to find it in a regular store, but thanks to you guys I think it's worth a look! :)

I've stored my baking yeast in the freezer, no bad effects. And the place I bought my big block of yeast was Superstore, pretty normal grocery store here.

I've never used fresh yeast - have any of you?

I know professionals use it, but it's quite perishable and not so convenient for a home baker.

Baking is my hobby. I'm using all kinds of yeast. So I checked online for help, they said amazona.com. you can find their Red star brand. It's cheaper than in grocery store.
