I made the baby's birthday cake today (I can't believe he's 1!!) But alas, one layer completely stuck and is a total mess. So, single layer cake it will be! LOL I'm not impressed with the cake (chocolate). It's not as moist as I'd like. I seem to remember saying that when I made it before. I should really leave a note beside the recipe to say I don't like it! Going out to the other grocery store to get discount bananas for muffins. Plus the turkey stew is brewing.
I really want to take the kids to forage for canberries. Just have to convince someone to tell me where their secret picking spot is! Then I'd make some sort of canberry muffin I think.
please do share your recipe for turkey stew
and no i don't think cream whipped is table cream. at least i don't recall it being called that. its usually a light or dark blue box.
Insane: It is not too late! The layer can be salvaged. My SIL is a professional cake decorator and she swears by freezing some of her cake recipes. For some, it seems to make them firmer to decorate but inside become more moist at the same time. I believe she does this with some of GF recipes. OR: Poke the cake. I have done this and it really works. Make a very thin mix of icing sugar and milk/water. (I sometimes add some flavouring.) Poke holes in the cake and pour some of the syrup into the hole. Allow the syrup to dry on the surface and you are ready to scratch coat!
Short weeks are the worse my theory is you deal with 5 days worth of problems in 4 days plus in my line of work about another 2 days worth of problems because apparently our truck schedules for short weeks do not work for them and it is all order desks fault and we should get them "favours".
I have the same issues with recipes but in my case I can never remember if that was the one we liked or did not like so I just do not make it. I so need a better system but we collect cookbooks and probably have somewhere between 1000 - 2000 so keeping track of them all is hard but wow do they look pretty on book shelves.
OR take the layer and squish it into balls cover with icing, coconut, candy bits, icing sugar/cocoa powder etc. ..make cake balls.!
I imagine it's just barely. I thought I'd answer before you all think DH is a diamond smuggler or something. :-) Ah, my colourful life! DH is spending cash on things that aren't issued receipts for. For example, he has to purchase water jugs for the coolers in the entire building. Because of his busy schedule, he has to send someone else to pick it up. There are no deliveries since the place that sells the water is a unit in the same building. So, he hands someone cash to pay for the water. His company will only reimburse if there is a receipt to prove the purchase. The person he sends, never obtains a receipt, and never returns to his office but goes to install the water.
Eventually, the bottom line is we're out the money and incidents like that amount to many thousands of after tax dollars that are as good as tossed out the window each year. The president of the company is pleased as punch that he doesn't have to pay out of pocket and is not exactly the most fair person. Sigh. We've talked about it many times and nothing has changed in nearly a decade. The only option is finding a new job. I've been hoping and praying....
Aw, thank you! My birthday is actually not here yet, but I've gotten a gift yesterday, saw my parents today (and a cash gift!), and tomorrow I shall bake myself chocolate brownies. Yes, I'm feeding a craving!
I don't think I will get a rose bush as for a Christmas gift, I got coupons (with expiry dates on December 31, 2013 - booo!!!)! Two of them were for a rose bush. However, the nursery won't have any for order until this fall to be picked up next spring. :( To be honest, I don't know how lenient DH is with the expiry date on the coupons. All of them have "Some conditions apply. See vendor for details." printed on them.
DH is such a comedian.
