Amex Gift Cards-no more replacement cards as of August 25, 2021

I was looking for Amex's gift card website, as three days ago I got an AMEX prepaid card via a mall promo. I am curious if these cards have network fees like Visa prepaid cards. Anyway, I noticed a new policy that affects replacements for lost/expired gift cards (the ones issued by Amex, not Peoples Trust) as of August 25, 2021:

Notice: Effective August 25, 2021 replacement gift cards will no longer be offered for lost or stolen gift cards or for cards with an expired “Valid Thru” date. Please call Customer Service (1-800-505-6849) to obtain a refund equal to the current unused available balance. You will not be charged any fees for the refund.
The information on this website pertains to American Express Gift Cards issued by Amex Bank of Canada, which are no longer offered. Please check the back of your card for issuer information. If your card is issued by Peoples Trust Company, you have an American Express Prepaid Card. For prepaid card balance, customer service and Cardholder Agreements, please visit amexprepaidcard.com

Now's a good time to search for any gift cards that have been forgotten in drawers, car glove boxes or console boxes, wallets, clothing, bags or change jars. You would not want to miss a chance to use a gift card/prepaid card! Especially if you have the AMEX card affected by the upcoming policy...
