Monsanto is looking to take over the world's food production and probably harm it irretrevably.

They make the weed killer "Round Up" and they produce agriculture seeds (corn, beans, etc.) that are resistant to Round Up. The idea is a farmer plants his fields with Monsanto seeds and then he can spray it with Round Up to kill all the weeds but not harm his crop. It is a business model now used by most non-organic farmers in the US and Canada. There are advantages and disadvantages to this practice.

It is what allows us the massive volume of food production we have. It is a big part of what makes food prices low in North America. There are environmental concerns. There are food safety concerns. These concerns deserve study. For your own gardening in the meantime I recommend the use of "heirloom" seeds and that you don't hose the entire area down with chemicals.

For farm production I recommend that the farmers, scientists, and other interested parties keep an eye on the effects of Round Up in the environment. Banning it's use would lower food production, raise food prices, damage the economy, and increase hunger among the vulnerable. If Round Up is found to have serious environmental and/or health consequences it could be we would have to stop it's use anyway despite the advantages of using it.

Above all I advise thoughtful and reasoned discourse on the topic.
