I guess I still learn this lesson from time to time...but I'm a pathological people pleaser, and I know you can never please everyone, no matter how hard you try.

I had to learn everything the hard way as a teen. I consistantly made the same mistakes and still headed back out for more. Guess I just wanted to be sure LOL

It's a lesson I'm still learning too. Like you I like to please but someone will always criticize instead of appreciating the gesture and saying thank you (like my mum, my in-laws). So now I try not to care much about what others think or say. I've learned (and still learning) to just ignore and forget.
Also if I please too much, people start taking advantage. Somehow, I am encouraging this behaviour from others by putting their needs before mine. So now, I've started to think more about myself and my needs.

I use to have a beautiful singing voice. I killed it with cigarettes. Wish I would have not grown up in a house of smokers, and known the dangers of smoking.
