Here in Hamilton on the HSR - transit system if you had a 4 prong can, wheelchair, walker etc you could ride the bus for free. So I saw people my age (40) and way younger with 4 prong canes and lots of people. I take the same bus to downtown every day Mon to Fri and there were at least 5-8 people using them so they got to ride free cause they were injured or disabled. And on the way home during rush hour even more people.
Then June 1st, HSR said free bus ride for wheelchairs, walkers etc no more 4 prong cane allow. Came Monday June 3rd, my whole bus peeps that I see every day were all healed and walking fine and women wearing heals. I can one or two people maybe getting better due to surgery healing etc but the whole bus healed. All month I haven't seen one 4 prong cane and all the people on my bus all must be healed because they don't use one anymore. Hamilton must have sprinkled special meds to heal people in the city. The one lady who limped and limped, she has been wearing heels and even the younger one walking fine. Today on the 10 bus route I was talking to a driver and she said she saw so many passenger limp on the bus and walk normally off the bus and that was the reason why they got rid of it cause it was abused so much.
Sad to see people are scamming the system pretending to be disabled just for a free bus ride. Hamilton is lucky with bus tickets its $2.00 one way and transfer good for 1.5 hours. This thread is currently associated with: N/A

Wow busses here in Moncton are 2.25 and everyone over 6 has to pay it. On Wednesdays seniors over 65 can ride free with Id. Some vus routes are wheel chair accessible but not all. (I think there is an ability transit you can call for routes that aren't wheel chair accessible).

wow, that is sad, glad they saw the abuse and fixed it.
I limped off the bus today but it was because some guy who thought he was helping a woman with a stroller squished my foot putting the seat up

That's quite sad, I'm glad they fixed it. The bus in London is $2.75 for everyone 6 and up. I have seen parents with very obvious older children try to get away with not paying for their children, but other than that just the usual scammers. There's been a few times where I've seen someone come on and try to use a fake ticket, only to get shooed off.

It's good they fixed it so the scammers couldn't ride for free. However, there are people who legitimately need to use a 4 pronged cane. Too bad they have to suffer because of the scammers.

I can't understand why people would want to haul a cumbersome cane around with them all day! I wonder how they explain it when they get to work? It's not like you can stash one of those canes in your bag or, if you've taken the bus, in a car trunk!

I have noticed this too (although it is a lot easier to get onto the bus now the number of walkers has halved)
In many cities, people in wheelchairs pay a fare, the free rides are supposed to be for those with disabilities causing them to not be able to work - not every senior who buys a walker needs a free ride when others are paying etc.
I actually found more people used those walkers with the basket than the 4 prong canes
