My parents had the lawyer do their wills and POAs (no specific details beyond who can speak and Dad's POA for health was not used a year ago-quite an oversight that I argued about last year), though in Ontario, adult residents can draft their own POAs if the necessary details, witnesses and same ink are used. Plus residents can change POAs as they like--but the average person may know of such documents but not have them. My brother really ought to have a will (assets) and POAs. I don't have either document but middle age has me thinking of POAs --but I've no idea who I'd ask to represent me and also of funeral plot and associated service details.

I live in Quebec, so it might be different in the rest of Canada.
I had my will done a few months ago, not that I expect to go soon, just that it's something that needs to get done.
I searched online and found a notary a few minutes away from my home. She was excellent.
She sent me a document by email to fill out. I returned it to her by email, then met with her a few days later. She had prepared the will and went over every part of it with me, made revisions where necessary, and then I signed it along with a witness (another notary in her office).
Total cost was $250. Well worth the price for the peace of mind it has left me.

This week, I saw the Free Wills month ad for the Hamilton/Burlington area in the major daily paper.
I also recall seeing one lawyer offer a will service at a reduced price for this month, about the same as you posted @super_e !

I'm certain that different provinces have similar promotions in various months or weeks, so it's great to share will service deals or promotions.

1 will and 2 powers of attorney done by a lawyer. All set and in order. Reviewed and modified every few years as needed

By chance, I saw on Twitter that the Ontario Bar Association held some recent events this month online on this very topic. Missed the one yesterday held for my library system and Toronto had its event this afternoon. Sigh.
