I myself dislike overages, turns people insanely greedy. I hate even more when people justify stealing a whole tear pad and then clearing a shelf because they will make money. For awhile I'd hoped SC would delete the brag threads of people clearing a shelf of zantac to buy a regular load of groceries.

Giant Tiger also allows overages. It would be nice if they all did. I no longer shop at Sobey's because of there change in coupon policy, not allowing coupon on half price items. To me that is the whole point on couponing, matching the coupon with a sale to get the best deal possible. So long as the coupon meets the criteria, I think the price of the product should not matter.

All stores get reimbursed the full value of the coupon. So I would think it should be against retail laws for them to reduce the value of the coupon.

I've always thought of coupons as another form of "currency". If I hand a store a $20 but my order is $15, I would expect $5 in change. Same goes with coupons because the stores do get reimbursed, IMO.
Now, it is still the stores right to not accept my coupons just as it is their right to not except pesos!
Would be nice if everystore did overage, but even still, it's rare to find that right coupon to make it happen everytime. I'm just happy taking a chunk off my grocery bill each week!

I don't use coupons for stuff that I will never use, like Zantac, just to get overage. Once in a blue moon I get overage but it is literally a few pennies. I try to stay away from Walmart anyways these days, their prices are getting out of hand, not worth it anymore.

My Maxi will allow a few pennies of overage also but it is usually applied to taxes.

Stores not only get reimbursed for the full value of the coupon but also get a handling fee.

Have not had overage yet and don't buy stuff that I am not going to use. It is fun to read though how people read the coupons and can actually use it towards the smaller packs. Before joining SC, never thought you could do that (like for what people do with Zantac). I have not had the courage yet to do that, may be one day but not yet.

In some stores policy they said they will reduce the price of the coupon if the coupon is more than the product . I've have it don't a few times.

All stores get reimbursed the full value of the coupon. So I would think it should be against retail laws for them to reduce the value of the coupon.

I have bought the Zantac- gave it to Seniors that worked at my local foodbank (they were very thankful to get it, that stuff is so expensive) and used the overage to buy food for the food bank. Both were appreciated. I would not buy just to get the overage if the product could not be used by myself or others.

As long as the products purchased to obtain overage are not literally thrown out into the garbage.... then I dont see a problem. It doesn't matter if they are used by myself, or by my relatives, friends, or if I donate them. If I can make money, and subsequently earn stuff for myself or others at no cost, then I will take what I can get.

I was talking with a store manager yesterday about a coupon I used for $3.99 product and my coupon was $5 I said to him your company made a profit. Thats when he said no he has to show the company what he sold the product for at the till.

Please no rants about zantacs or ripping off tears pads.

I have been hearing this a lot recently.

Example: At Walmart. I have used numerous coupons, on the same type of item, using the same coupons and have been asked to separate ALL of my items.
This week - the secret deo. I had to do 8 separate orders.
I have been told at least three times, that the Walmart cash office people have to provide the coupon WITH a proof of receipt in order to claim the coupon amount.
Therefore they need each transaction to show only ONE coupon, in order for them to claim the coupon money.

I personally am now starting to think the company's actually get the full value of the coupon back because if they didn't I don't think Walmart would allow us to get overage because then they be losing lots of money. This has me thinking are we allowed to write the selling price on the coupon at the till for stores that don't give overage so they don't make profits on the coupons? I think when the company's send in the coupons they actually don't send in the receipts with it unless the manufacturer asks for proof of the resale price. Just my thoughts maybe someone knows from experience in sending in coupons ?

it is a numbers game.
if someone uses zantac coupon for small pack, most likely someone else will of bought a bigger pack without the coupon. so if the manufacturer actually wants to look at walmarts record of product stock(this never happens). then the records will show that 1 small pack, and 1 large pack were sold, and then they can just say that the coupon was used on big pack....no store actually scans coupons, they enter minus $ amount manually. it all works out in the end,

same way that save-on-foods lets you stack coupons that you shouldnt be able to, if you use 3 coupon on 1 product, records will shows that they also sold 2 products without coupons, so in end its 3 coupons used, 3 items sold.
save-on-foods can still do this because they are a much larger company, unlike london drugs who got a talking to by P&G because they were letting people clear out too much product for free , costing P&G money.
