You will receive a free barcode scanner that you use to scan purchases you have made. Then, each week, put the scanner over
the phone to transmit the data. For each submission, you earn points, which are redeemable for free gifts. You also enter in their regular sweepstakes. You will get a package in the mail with more questions concerning demographics. You will then be required to fill that out and send it in.
If you fit into their demographic requirements you will be selected for the program.
The woman on the phone said there are currently 13000 people that are part of the homescan program.
Also your information is not sold. She said you will not start getting millions of spams and junk mail for signing up.AC Nielsen just sent me a scanner!
I am now a member of Homescan Panel.
At first, they sent me a postcard telling me that I may be chosen and that there may be an opening for me soon. After few months, they sent me a lengthy survey to complete.
Then, the barcode scanner finally arrived by courier today. It is very cool using it. It seems that I would have to transmit my data via a 1-800 line once a week. Sort of like The Matrix
The gifts in the gift catalogue are mostly home products like Timex watches, drills, cookware (sort of like Air Miles merchandises).
It seem that it takes a year before I have enough points to order something in the first 2 levels of gifts. But, the welcome package tells me that there will opportunities for bonus points for answering surveys, AC Nielsen just sent me a scanner!

I waited several years before they sent me the scanner. I was pretty happy when it arrived, however we do $400.00 grocery trips. Last thing I want to do is scan every single product before putting it away. Also you have to keep it updated once a month. I never bothered, not to mention right around the same time I quit my job to go back to school. So much going on all the time I just didnt care to try. Sent it back.
For those who are still waiting, you are likely still on the list and once someone from the same demographics as you turns in theirs, you will get your letter of approval.
Good luck!Last edited by dawnikus; Wed, Mar 7th, 2007 at 09:38 PM. Reason: Bad engrish!

Bc you probably weren't turned down. Maybe like dawnikus said, it may just take some time to get it. What a great idea to keep lil ones busy.......get them to scan the products for you, they'd have a ball, lol.

They send out a letter first, then you are to call with the ID number listed at the top of the page. When you call they dont even say the company name just "Hello". Very informal and weird. They ask if you are going on vacation or if you plan on moving any time soon. I think if you have moved since you signed up, you might want to re-register they can look it up in their db (database) and make the changes. They have been around for years, I remember a boy I dated, his mom had one.

Oh yea one more thing... It comes by canada post, if you arent home the carrier will leave it at your door. In my case it sat outside for 3 days before I noticed it because of where he left it. Keep the box as you will need it to ship the scanner back for whatever reason.
