I am glad you enjoyed the package. Hiding in the bottom of the box are about 8 icing bags and there is a container of decorating tips in there, too. The icing on the recipe sheet is yummy but it will not work with an icing bag. Here's the recipe I use....and some tricks and tips that may help. I thought I would post this to the thread in case there are others who haven't tried their hand at cake decorating but would like to give it a whirl. Starting with cupcakes is the way to go....a large cake can be intimidating!

    Buttercream Icing

    1/2 cup shortening
    1/2 butter, softened
    1 tsp. Vanilla extract
    4 cups icing sugar
    2 Tbsp. Milk

Ina large bowl, cream together the butter, shortening, and vanilla.Blend in the sugar, one cup at a time, beating well after eachaddition. Beat in the milk, and continue mixing until light andfluffy. Keep icing covered until ready to decorate.

    Tips & Tricks:

Tint icing with paste colours. Add very gradually as colours can become intense. I dip the small end of a toothpick in the food colouring and add small amounts to the icing until I get the desired shade. Remember, you can always go darker, so start small.

Practice using your decorating tips by making decorations on something like a plastic cutting board or a plate. You can scrape the icing off and put it back in the bag and keep using your practice batch over and over until you are ready for the 'real thing'.

Don't overfill your icing bag. Spoon the icing into the bag to about 1/3 full. Then squeeze gently to get any air pockets out (otherwise you will have big 'splurts'). Fold the excess over on itself several times.

The icing in your bag will warm up (from the heat of your hands) as you use it. If it becomes to soft, put the bag in the fridge for 10 minutes to chill it and you will find the consistency much easier to work with.

    First, let me say....

    I love
    love
    love
    love
    love brownies!!!

Second, I have a pan of them baking in the oven right now because I just returned from the post office where I picked up my package from Gwenad.

Third, I love jar recipes, mixes, etc! So I was very happy to get a recipe for make-ahead brownie mix ( plus two bags of the mix. I'm down to one already!) It keeps for six months .... or twelve months in the freezer. I also received a very nice heavy weight loaf pan and new measuring cups and spoons in bright, cheery colours. Oh, and you can see that I have already opened the chocolate chips and added some to the brownie mix.

Thank you SO much, Gwenad. Your package made my day!!!

Glad you liked it DianneS! I love the recipe, my mom gave it to me I do sometimes make them "healthier" by using whole wheat flour or splenda instead of sugar, but in general I stick to the regular one, and almost always have some on hand in case of guests or whatever.

And I love that buttercream icing recipe! I'll be making that up for sure. Wonder if I can put icing on brownines... hmm.

There was a package in my mailbox today!

And it was wrapped up soooo securely, it was challenging to open. No chance of anything getting out or spilling along the way. Cowgirlmama appears to be an expert packer

Thanks so much cowgirlmama! Everything looks and sounds delicious.

My fabulous package includes two great looking recipes - caramel pretzel bark and dehydrated apple cookies. The dehydrated apples are homemade by cowgirlmamma, and the apples come from her own trees!

She also included some extras to munch on - an extra bag of dehydrated apples (they are really good, what kind of apples are they?), banana chips (dh looooves banana chips, so he will be very excited when he sees those) and a jar of homemade apple sauce. It's been years since I've had some homemade, so am really looking forward to enjoying it. And silly cowgirlmama also included some cash to buy the butter for the recipes. She even included the parchement paper for the bark. Parchement paper is probably my favorite kitchen tool. Makes everything easier.

Am looking forward to try out these recipes. Everything is mixed and ready to go. This is what my awesome package looks like.
