Soooooo stressed :-/

Im pregnant .. I've been working since June (when school finished) and I'm in a hospital so I'm on call. Since ill be off as of 24 weeks the govt will be only using my income of the last 24 weeks to determine my mat leave amount ..
It's been 2/3 weeks that work BARELY calls !!!! I have a feeling summer vacays are over so there's no shifts to take ... As of Saturday for that pay period of 2 weeks .. Ill have worked 3.5 days ... With these kinds of schedules what will my mat leave be ???!! Complete poor mess :(

What am I going to do ...

first off.. Congratulations.. its still a blessing.. you'll see ;)
secondly breathe.... its going to be ok!!!
you still have appr. 7.5 months to get the hours you require as long as your healthy enough and the pregnancy is fine to continue working..just make sure you have the Dr's ok.

if we all waited until life was 'perfect' to have our children.. many of us would still be waiting ;)

I don't have 7.5 months though .. When you work in a hospital you're on preventive leave as of 24 weeks ... Meaning.. In 6.5 weeks ill be home . I thought about looking for another job but who's gonna hire a preggo mama ?

But I do agree though if we waited we'd never have. That's why we already have DD too lol

I don't know your situation, whether you have mortgage etc but do you have savings that you could use if the money by the govt is not enough?

hmm.. im sure as long as your ok.. you can find something maybe even part time.. not sure if you can still get the leave on PT.. i never did.. soon as i found out when i was pregnant. i quit.. (my work involved lifting 30+ lbs all day)..
you dont' legally have to divulge your pregnant either. and an employer can't fire you if they find out either. good luck hun I wish you the best of luck.

My job is the same . I'm an orderly and I'm not supposed to lift anymore but two days ago a 170lbs lady fell in my arms .. It's horrible .

Jina: I rent for now and have DD and DF. He had some inheritance he got that we could use but I do feel bad as I feel I'm not contributing and now would be asking to cover with his inheritance cause I have a crappy job. He said he could try and get a second job though ..
I don't know .. It's confusing .

It's true that I don't have to divulge that I'm pregnant so maybe I could try and get something else ..

I also thought of doing homework help and babysitting when I'm off at 24 weeks .. Provided I find customers ...

I've never heard of having to leave work so early - are you unionized? Could you not get assigned to lighter duty?

My sister is an ICU nurse, and worked almost right to the end.
She lifts all the time - though I'm sure she didn't when she was pregnant.

Yesterday, she was moving a man 6' 8", 330 pounds and, as she said, 'not sedated'... hope her back is okay today!

Because as orderlys we lift alot more than nurses, it's also the biological factors . There's alot of agitated people , a couple crazies . But the nurses in Quebec get stopped at 32 weeks . Us orderlys at 24.. I was told mainly because of the physical stuff .
For example if a nurse has to move a 6'8 giant here ... She'll call the orderlies

I realize that you are concerned about the hours you have worked and qualifying for maternity leave, but don't forget that you might also qualify for up to 15wks of illness benefits with a doctor's note. I'm not saying that being pregnant makes you "ill" necessarily, but your doctor might sign off on it because it is not safe for you to work at your current job. Things to check into.

if things get too iffy I will do that however that is 55% salary.. CSST at 24 weeks will cover 90% salary. Plus if I go on illness those weeks count as 0 income for the mat leave calculations.. My best bet would be to clock in more "safe" hours but they don't have them for me or find something else.. So stressful..

You absolutely are contributing... to the health of your baby and to your household by using coupons. If you could find 1 or 2 kids in your apartment building that need some child care it would really help you out. It is totally doable and you have 2 back ups to that plan... 1... your DF gets a second job... 2 you use savings.

Sweetie your just nervous and everything is going to be ok... your in wayyyyyyyyy better shape then you think you are.... ok maybe you can make a air freshener with a label on it and have a mom's money trouble be gone spray! (lol... I thought that might give you a giggle)

I received illness benefits for 10wks before my baby boy was born last year. I then contacted EI and had it changed over to maternity benefits. The weeks of illness benefits does NOT count as zero income. They simply ignore that time and count based on your income from directly before you started your leave. My EI benefits were EXACTLY the same during my illness benefits as they were during my maternity/parental leave.
