Seriously though, tell them basically what you said here. You are trying to be frugal, you're going to spend $X on them and no more. If they want to spend more that's up to them. Ask them if they understand your position. They may not but stick to your guns and live by your words. They will come to understand eventually (I hope).
My 2 cents at least.I can't profess to understand God's plan. Christ promised the resurrection of the dead. I just thought he had something a little different in mind.
