Rogers Communications Inc. has cleared the final regulatory hurdle on its path to entering the financial services business and said Friday it plans to start offering credit card services in conjunction with its loyalty program next year.
Points in the program, which is being rolled out in stages across the country throughout this year, can be redeemed for rewards such as roaming packages, Internet package upgrades and long distance for home phones.
David Robinson, vice-president of emerging business at Rogers, said customers who sign up for the credit cards would be able to earn rewards in the loyalty program at an accelerated rate.
Just a word of caution. . . . (from someone who reads credit bureaus every day) Rogers is one of the quickest companies to send an unpaid/late debt to collections. I would think twice about this card. . .

Would the card company give points to customers with valid complaints that had to ensure long, drawn out customer service dept. handling?

If there CC is anything like their Cell Phone plans & Customer Service , I will pass !
Bell is right up there with them.
Telus is probably the lesser of the 3 evils here ..not great but probably better than the other 2.

Rogers new credit card may work well with its First Rewards program, that was initially rolled out this past July in Red Deer, Alberta and London, Ontario. Customers can earn points that can be redeemed for upgraded internet packages, premium TV content, home phone long-distance calling, wireless international roaming discounts or other Rogers’ services and products; the credit card enables subscribers to boost point earnings.
A) Do you think that the new Rogers credit card will lead to higher subscription prices? It could be harder for subscribers to end their Rogers services since card cancellation adds an additional step to completely ending an account.
B) Or, do you believe that cardholders stand to mostly benefit from reward-driven savings on their monthly Rogers bill?
C) Given that Bell/CIBC announced its own mobile payment solution just months after Rogers/CIBC completed its first mobile credit card transaction back in Nov 2012, do you think the other 2 major Canadian telcos (Bell and Telus) will offer their own rewards credit cards?
Isn’t there a chance that some consumers will emerge as winners from using Rogers new telecom rewards credit card?

They ( Rogers ) want you to use your cell phone as a method of payment.
Eventually your cell phone will be used as a credit card , debit card etc ..you just tap your cell phone and go , when you want to make a payment.
They have already started rolling that out in select areas on an experimental basis.
Imagine your Rogers cell phone is also your Rogers CC , Rogers bank debit card etc..pretty much full control over you ..convenient but has its cons too

Hi Daniel,
Yes there will be consumers that will gain from this. It's just that they'll likely be a small minority (much like other similar cards/promotions) You have to be a savvy consumer to truly take advantage of most promotions. Most people sign up with great intentions, but often it ends up with no benefit or worse, costing them money.

I prefer the smaller business like start.ca or acanac for internet, or people trust/canadian tire/canadian direct or a credit union for bank stuff. Or the local independent gas station.
So rogers can keep their CC and their rewards for themselves.Always have your stuff when you need it with @Dropbox. Get up to 18 GB in free online storage when you sign-up using this link -> http://db.tt/218DjYg
