whats with calling eyelid surgery "asian eyelid surgery" I've heard this topic being debated over and over again and now it's come back in the news because Julie Chen revealed she had plastic surgery to modify her eyes because both an agent and her boss (at that time) told her she couldn't get any further in her career because her eyes were holding her back. But instead of wording it like "she got surgery to make her eyes appear larger" everyone is saying "she got surgery to make her eyes appear less asian" or even saying "...to look more caucasian"...her eyes are still very much asian to me.
Asian eyes come large and small, monolid and double lids just like some caucasians have hooded and monolid eyes as well as large double lids. Her eyes still look asian and so does most other people who I have seen that have gotten the surgery on TV. It's really ignorant to say things like (and I've been hearing this on talk shows) "Asians are killing their culture by getting this surgery." Is this not a double standard to say these things about asians deciding to go under the knife? I mean no one generalizes itallian people, who have "big itallian noses", that decide to get a rhinoplasty that theyre killing their culture (I'm just taking other stereotypes for an example...not meaning to insult anyone here).
Asian culture is a lot like any other culture out there, there is a prefered look and not everyone has it but most people want it (ex in america it could be having blonde hair, blue eyes). Most famous stars in Hong Kong and China have double eyelids if that's what you look at everyday then yeah you'll desire it and see it as beautiful and thats why they get the surgery it's not to look more caucasian (in most cases). It's so ignorant for people to be saying that we're trying to look more white and we're killing our culture... I would think of it as trying to look like a more desirable version of asian if anything.
