I received this email about discounts for seniors in the U.S., but the message, and many of the stores, also apply to Canada. Ask for your senior's discount - nothing to lose.

As I was waiting in line behind an older gentleman at Wendy's recently,I heard him ask for his senior discount. The girl at the register apologized and
charged him less. When I asked the man what the discount was, he told me that

seniors over age 55 ...get 10% off everything on the menu, every day. (But you

need to ASK for your discount.)

Being of 'that' age myself, I figured I might as well ask for the discount too.
This incident prompted me to do some research, and I came across a list of

restaurants, supermarkets, department stores, travel deals and other types of

offers giving various discounts with different age requirements. I was actually

surprised to see how many there are and howsome of them start at the young

    age of 50 .
This list may not only be useful for you, but for your friends and family too.

Dunkin Donuts gives free coffee to people over 55 .
If you're paying for a cup every day, you might want to start getting it for FREE.

YOU must ASK for your discount !

Thanks for the info. It never hurts to ask about a senior/student discount every time because they may be unadvertised.

    This discount caught my eye:
Waldorf Astoria - NYC $5,000 off nightly rate for Presidential Suite (55 +)

The University of British Columbia offers senior citizens (those 65 or older) exemption from tuition and application fees for credit courses. For more information and conditions that apply, please visit the UBC Student Services website (see under "Exchange Students" section).

Murchie's Tea stores have a 10% off senior's day discount, I think on the first Wed of each month.

I think the Bay has Senior's Day on the first Tues of each month, 15% off. There may be exclusions, so ask first.

Also, Army & Navy dept stores (western chain) have a senior's day once a month, forgot which day.

Thank you so much for sharing and other members too. I had asked this question a while back for everyone to add but there was never any feedback so thanks for starting this back up. Any savings counts and we have paid retail for so long -enjoy the added savings and put the shyness aside. You earned those savings and take advantage of your hard work. I will make certian to pass along and share the tips. Thank you.

Why is it misc rather than hair-dressing/barbers/beauty shops??? .Misc to me is well...stuff that you can't fit into a described catergory while hair and beauty has a defined status with respect to the retail market..

Mary Maxim-first Monday of month: seniors get 10% off (think it's for 55+)
Lens Mill Store-first Tuesday of month: seniors get 10% off (not sure of min. age); if a holiday, the following Tuesday will be senior's day (as happened in July this year).
Sears Canada-selected Tuesdays in the year for seniors 55+ with ID: 15% off reg. or sale-priced women's/men's clothing, intimates, accessories-some brand/product/price exclusions will apply. Mom did not get the discount on a top marked on sale for last week's senior day as CSR said it did not qualify (fine print on flyer suggests otherwise). Also watch-prices ending in .97 are excluded from promo.

YMMV-good to call your store ahead of the day to verify discount/date/age applicable.
