I was polite and those 2 absolutelly not.And I have now 2 weeks to do a cleaning like they want otherwhise I will have $$$$$ to paid...I have boxes and stuff...but really does that justify to treat me like that? In my opinion no. That ruin my day.

Why would they come? I thought they'd only come to do inspections when the home was filled with stuff like a house of a hoarder.

No it is annual. They check the electricity pannel, the smoke alarm, emergencies exits and that goes on.Strange I have a ion battery on my smoke detector but they dont test it because I said It last 7 years,,and it have 3 years no need to change the battery 2 times a year at the change of the season.

We've had 2 random inspections in the 30 years we lived in this house.. both times it was due to huge fires in the city due to no working smoke detectors. I like that they do these.. it makes us all a bit safer... Sorry though you had peeps with attitude.. that sucks.

I just finished cleaning out my grandmother's apartment, as we finally got her into assisted living. Her old apartment did look like a place from Hoarders. She just had little paths to the kitchen, to her chair, and down the hall to her bedroom and bathroom, with a little path to her bed. It was so bad that the cleaning took more than a month, and I feel seriously grumpy about having spent much of the summer doing the work. If she had been living in a house, we would have rented a large dumpster for the front lawn, but in an apartment, you have to haul everything out manually. She actually told all her friends at the building about what her grandchildren were "trying to do" to her, as she wanted to save everything. My brother, there to take away garbage and truckloads of Shopping Channel items to Goodwill, was scolded by three different women. When her immediate neighbour started in on him with "I don't like what you're doing to your grandma!" He took her for a tour of the apartment. She quickly shut up.
She would never have been convinced to let anyone clean out the apartment if she hadn't moved and been left about six weeks before the old lease was up, though maybe regular fire inspections over the years would have forced her to clean up her act. The manager was horrified when she took a potential tenant into the apartment after my grandmother herself had moved and we were working on the cleanup.

cathy, you mean the City comes around and does these " inspections " on a regular basis to every home? I have never had anyone come here in 25 years?? Does it only apply to certain Cities?

I do not think a stockpile is a hoarding situation unless it is never used or maintained, cleaned and tidylike.

When I lived in a small town, the fire department did those checks - they don't seem to in the city. Sorry they gave you attitude cath... no need for that!

Not sure where you are living but if you are in an apartment and your unit does not meet fire regulations you are putting everyone else in the building at risk. The building owner is probably just trying to meet insurance requirements in order to be fully covered in case of a fire. Really not much you can do about it if you live in a multi unit building. The inspectors could go about it nicer though.
