Just joined Kiva.org, an organization that funds micro-loans to people in developing countries. I love the idea that the $25 I saved in groceries can be given to a fish woman with 5 children in the Philippines to help grow her business.

It was my understanding that you could purchase SDM GC's only, with a credit card. I've been doing this for years, but my store does not allow the purchase of any other GC's with credit card. Ask the store manager.

I'm going to just go with 2 x $75 SDM GC for the 9500 pnts to use for the next few 18500 wub $75 events. As a side not I've never had any issue at any of the shoppers around me about using my cc for any gift card purchase. $ is $ to them

Do not take the chance using a financial card/SDM gift card to make these purchases. It's not up to the store whether you get your points or not. Be safe and use debit or cash.

So I did the promo, unfortunately I brought my DH along. Couldn't get all the cards I wanted. Hubby didn't want Petro Canada even though they had the save 5 cents/L deal. He only wanted Chevron but settled for Esso. I got a mixture of Tim Hortons, Subway, iTunes, Starbucks,Winners, and Esso. Cashier had no idea of the event and said I wouldn't get any points for GC's. Had to show her the flyer. She also wouldn't do my last transaction ( I did 3). I was like," excuse me, I want those ones too." Paid by debit. Next year doing this by myself.

I was informed at one of the SDMs where I bought $150 in GCs that there was no need to swipe my Optimum card as it doesn't apply with GCs. I explained that SDM has a GC points promo this week. She told me that there has been an internet email scam and that you can't believe everything you read online. I asked her to humour me by scanning my Optimum card.
What I should have said was "Well I read it on Smart Canucks so it MUST be true!"

My cashier didn't know either. I showed her the flyer and she thanked me. However, the Petro 5 cent off a Litre of gas cards all expired on Dec. 31, 2013, so not so great as Christmas gifts.
