Any recommendations for hand cream?

It's that time of year again!

This has only started happening to me in the last 5 years but as soon as October/November come around my hands get quite dry and extremely itchy and red/blotchy and sometimes burn a little. Does this happen to anyone else? What do you use? I've tried cortisone cream, the garnier intensive samples actually worked quite well last year but don't seem to be helping so far this year. :shrug: When it first started happening I actually thought it was a reaction to the soap at work but now that I haven't worked in a while and it still happens I figure that's not it, heh. The doc says to use cortisone but it's of minimal help.

I get dyshydrotic eczema on my hands (which hasnt flared up in a while, thank god.) I have a cortisone cream for it as well.

But I use glysomed, from target, its rather cheap and you dont need a lot of it. I dont know if the jar is the same as the bottle but I have the bottle one. :)

ok this will sound weird...
there is a Gold Bond foot cream, it is in a blue tube, and costs about 8-10 bucks.
it is an awesome foot cream, but is also really great on your hands :)

Yes! That happens to me too. I guess it's basically the hand equivalent of chapped lips.

I would steer away from anything with menthol, that seems to make it itch and burn worse for me.

Neutrogena has that Norwegian hand cream that comes in the tubes, it's super thick and great for putting on under mittens.

I think I've used just about every product out there for extremely dry skin. The best solution I've found is pure coconut oil all over including face and hands as it absorbs well and doesn't leave a greasy feeling after a few minutes. Then I apply Glaxal Base cream as a barrier (used this on my sons when they were infants for cradle cap and eczema). I also like Allenbury's soap (made by same company as Glaxal Base) which is super gentle on the skin. Don't forget to wear protective gloves when washing dishes and drink plenty of water to keep hydrated from the inside out :-).

Coconut Oil and different essential oils are good topical treatments - consider products from Clean Care (cleancareshop) - the products they endorse are free of harsh/harmful ingredients.

Consider seeing a naturopath or a Traditional Chinese Medicine. I used to have really dry skin and eczema ..and now I don't =) Instead of dealing with the symptoms, the naturopath/TCM practitioner addressed the core issue (and boosted my overall immune system).

We use Glaxal-Base in the winter. Love the stuff! Costco has tubs of it for $15 and it lasts us all season (usually into the next season too).

I like Glysomed (unscented version) hand cream. It's moisturizing and long lasting. Reasonably priced too. :)

Glysomed (unscented), Herbacin (unscented), or George's cream (his are all fragrance-free) and lanolin have all worked well for me. I put it on at night before bed, cause it's forms quite a protective layer on my skin that I don't want to wash off.

I also avoid using liquid soap (except at work, where I have no choice), as I find that is it far too drying on my hands. Bar soap for me, either glycerine, or even better, handmade soap. It is so much more gentle on skin than the harsh detergents in the liquid soaps.

Oh, and the Herbacin is on sale at SDM this week, for $2.99.

Curel, Aveeno, George's cream are all great. Body Shop olive oil body butter. I find Glysomed greasy. I really like how Aveeno absorbs and disappears.

I love Avons Moisture Therapy Hand Cream I have a tube at every sink and always put it on before bed :)
