Yes...they have always stated that they needed to be scratched in front of a cashier. My question with this particular promotion is, how are they going to know/monitor that? Because it is for a future purchase....if they scratch it on the 16th - 18th, you take it back home to use later on....how in the world are they going to track that? Me scratching a card looks no diff. than a cashier doing it....

OP thanks for posting!

Oh....now I think I get it...the scratch card is not the actual $5 off coupon...you need to have them scratch the card in-store, then they give you whatever the 'prize' is at that time...that makes sense...

How do you manage that? It says you are only allowed one per person. If I can get two, I'm lucky.

I got a few cards and believe they are all $5 off. Hope there is no minimum purchase on them.

P.S. Last year promo seemed better (you get $5 off with 3 chocolates) No chocolates this time!

This is new promotion, if anyone gets the $5 coupon, please post the details.

    (1) For the wording "No puchase necessary to participate". According to Canadian Tire manager, it doesn't mean you can get the prize without purchasing anything. It just means you don't need to buy anything and you can participate to scratch the card in front of the cashier. However, if you want to get the prize, you need to buy something. I believe that's what is original intention from the headquarter. I know some people can successfully get the prize without purchasing anything, but this is just not the originally purpose from Canadian Tire. If you do that, be prepare the cashier will tell you that at some point in the future promotion since it doesn't make sense Canadian Tire will give everyone a free product. However, you can always refund the product later if you want to prevent the hassle.

    (2) As other people mention, this promotion only mention that the reward is "$5 off coupon", but it doesn't mention anything if there is minimum purchase. Hope there is no minimum purchase. If yes, this is even better than those promotion deduct $5 instantly since you can have one month to redeem the coupon.

    (3) The promotion card has all those "participating partners" this time. I hope the $5 off is not just for the product listing under the "participating partners". $5 coupon may not be everything from store.

i'll be watching this thread for when someone posts the coupon.. i'm still wondering if there is a catch to it (not just a $5 off $5 purchase coupon)

Actually there is a law about contest that they must have a "No puchase necessary" option and making someone buy something to claim their prize is against the law. I will find a link to this law so if you want you can print it off if they try to give you a hassle.
