How do you guys get retailers to claim SCOP.
Whenever I say this item is scanned incorrectly and I get it for free they get a laugh and say its not true.
Many cashiers have no idea this law even exists and sometimes the supervisors or managers don't either.
What do you guys do? Carrying the law with you and show it to them? This thread is currently associated with: N/A

Stores have a copy of the SCOP by their cash registers or even by the customer service desk. I haven't had any issues with SCOP at any stores, but then again I shop at major retailers (Loblaws, Walmart).
As far as I know all Canadian retailers are supposed to abide by this policy, but I have read some threads on here, where it's not the case. Worth printing the policy and carrying it with you if you are given a hard time.

Its not a law except in Quebec.. SDM, Walmart, GT, Superstore does it for sure.. I'm not sure about others, check out their policy online
Be sure to click like and post a brag if you get the deal.. It makes my day!!! Flattery may just get you more deals
Be sure to double check your flyer, points and cashback offers~ YMMV

Most places have it on the door or on a wall, I know the No Frills that I go to regularly has it right beside the debit machine. Last two times I've gotten a SCOP there I had to point it out at the sign by the debit machine and say, "It says I get it for free right here."

I've done it at Walmart and superstore. I've learned that if it scans at the wrong price, I just let the transaction go through and then go to customer service after. Most cashiers don't know but customer service usually does

One time at Walmart with the Smartfood popcorn that did not scan at flyer price. I told cashier and she called csm and I eventually got a flyer. My Smartfood popcorn was a different flavour than what was on flyer and she said no. I only wish I had known then what I know now, lol Call head office!

I got one yesterday with no fuss. The item scanned and it came up $2 more. I told the cashier and she went and looked. She came back and said you are right its suppose to be 12.99. I asked " Can i get a SCOP for that?" and she said yep, Its going to cost you 2.99. Couldn't believe how easy it went that time. Usually I have to fight.

That is true but for me that time she was arguing the flavour of the popcorn and they were scanning at non sale price. They were even on the front page of flyer. She didn't know and didn't want to listen to me and was looking for a way to get out of it.

I haven't had any problems with SCOP. SDM has the stickers next to the main entrance doors that explain it and that they participate, and many grocery stores have the stickers by each cash register. All the stores within the Loblaws chain (so RCSS, YIG, etc.) abide by SCOP. Also Sobeys does. But SCOP is a voluntary practice so not all retailers in Canada participate. Target does not.
Here is some info from the competition bureau about SCOP, including number to call if not resolved satisfactorily.

On bottom of this page is list of signatories to SCOP.
