I assume the $25 cashback from paypal is no longer valid ..... It is kind of confused that they are still promoting in the site.

Well it seems they have a history of canceling orders for being OOS so if it doesn't ship it could be that. If you are in the minus you'll just stay there until you enter in another code or decide to use that account again. Of course that would be too normal so just create another account. :)
No they can't charge your credit card - but let them try, let them try.. As they'd be shut down quickly.
I don't have my cc on orders - so not worried about that.. :)
Don't confuse "can't" with "won't"--I have had this happen in the past. I finally had to call the credit card company (in my case BMO), and state that I had been mischarged or overcharged --I had my reciept so I was able to state the correct amount and BMO finally stopped the additional payment. It was not easy, but as the company I was dealing with was not going to make the correction, it was required. The CC companies consider overcharging FRAUD.
So keep checking your cc balance on a daily basis to see IF you have been charged any amount by shop.ca. Better safe than sorry!
Good luck
.
So what's in it for shop.ca? Is it SEO? Or something else.. They can't possibly be this dumb..
I don't think they're dumb. Those people working at shop.ca are intelligent (you can search who runs the company and you will see many names who used to work at big name companies). Maybe they'd rather spend their money this way instead of towards traditional advertising (I.e. television ads), because at least this way, they know people will actually go on their website to check it out to use those codes.
That's just what I think. I know they also had people handing out codes at Raptor games. The thing with creating multiple accounts though, who can really stop that? For the divine.ca codes, they did have a limited amount, it wasn't like they didn't know to cap it, same with the Facebook codes. I guess the Swiss Chalet one they should have known (though people did cheat and share the codes, plus I saw many people say they ordered food, got the code, but cancelled their order right after....). Overall I think they are smart, this way the money that could have gone into other advertisements, actually goes back to the customers who will likely shop there again.
I've been ordering from shop.ca for a few months a never had issues. They even gave me 15.00 to spend for free a couple months ago. They did cancel a portion if my order that I used divine.ca codes for. But, in my opinion, rightfully so. So many people people taking advantage if these codes... What did everyone think would happen?? Seriously... As far as the SC code, that was not meant to be shared, so of course they are going to get a handle on that. Im sure now they will handle offers differently but shop.ca is not to blame, it's the people who wrongfully shared codes.
.
the SC code was deducted from me rewards which are now negative 13 dollars, but i am still waiting for three items to ship from various suppliers. I ordered on the 2nd
now lets be honest after all this and their high prices who will shop here at regular prices?
oh jezzz looks like i have -14.86 in rewards. Ok now why in my right mind would i EVER place an order again on my account if i am going to have to pay an extra 14.86 for their error
Also has anyone had tracking # that dont exist from them, i have two (both books)
Of course they are part of the problem and will hopefully handle codes differently. but..just because something is put out there doesn't mean taking advantage or abusing it is RIGHT. I used more than one divine.ca code and when they cancelled my order, I wasn't mad. I don't blame them for having to cancel orders and such. As far as the SC, just because it was generic doesn't make it right for everyone to use, when they didn't place an order to rightfully receive the code.
You won't "owe" that money...what this means is that your order will be cancelled all together. Thats exactly what happened to me when i used more than one divine.ca code. First negative balance, order cancelled then my balance went to 0 or refunded any rewards that were mine before.
lol. I was thinking the same thing... they took $15 from a $25 that i was never going to use? lol. and for those with a negative balance account just open a new account with a different email address, i'm sure as a smartcancuker we all have more than one email address.
They will receive those then, but before my orders were actually cancelled I received the "your item has been shipped" email, then a while later received an email saying my order was cancelled. Not sure what will happen to those that actually receive orders. I mean, some codes were used rightfully so I don't think those orders should be cancelled. When they cancelled my divine.ca code order, they actually let me keep one code in my rewards. I really hope shop.ca will learn from all of this.
WOM is the strongest way of advertising. Instead of putting thousands of dollars on TV and Radio ads, they prefer to "give away" the items which are already overpriced on their site. And now... Millions of Canadians know shop.ca. Though pricey but free shipping even on orders less than $25. But, honestly speaking, items higher than $10 are so overpriced that shipping costs are already included in the price.
And no, Shop.ca will not go to Dragon's Den. On the contrary, Dragon's Den needs them. After all, Shop.ca belongs to Cadillac Fairview (owner of Yorkdale, Fairview, Sherway Gardens malls, etc...).
Besides, they also advertise companies on their site. E.g., for Boathouse it's better to "give away" some shirts and acquire more famous name among Canadians, than spend quite much money on TV ads.
So yes, it's all about marketing and advertising. And believe me, Shop.ca is a very smart site, and their employees know business quite well.
I'm extremely frustrated because I signed up before the $25 was only for orders over $100 and so it could be applied to any amount, , and was saving mine for such an event, and ordered Christmas presents through the site with the use of the codes- and now it looks like I won't be getting them! As a broke student, I just wanted to get my parents stuff that they would use, and now I have to think of a back up plan.
Reading on fb page they are stoping orders in transit through couriers and having them returned ~ wow just wow how low can they go. if there doing that they are making a mess an even bigger one.
I agree these codes entice someone like to check out their site and may actually purchase something. Last time someone posted something about up to $60 discounts ($25 paypal, $25 new member, $15 off) I purchased something over $150 and paid OOP$130 (did not get the paypal discount).
This round I did not know that the $15 SC code was only for people who purchased a meal from SC, thought it's just a generic free code. I later found that out from another site but already place my order. Only use that code once.
I have a order from Nov 28 that I paid 33$ out of pocket for and the charge isn't on my CC yet and all items are shipped
But I have a order from Dec 2 that I paid .15 cents for ,one item has been shipped and they charged my CC for this.
So confused about this site. Hoping to get my items that haven't shipped yet
Won't be shopping on there again
I just noticed that the $49.99 toaster that I ordered thru save.ca for .19 cents after using discount codes is on sale this week for $29.99 in one of the upcoming store flyers (not save.ca). My order was placed on Dec 2 and still hasn't shipped. My SC discount has been voided but it still shows $10 in my account. I am fully expecting my order to be cancelled like so many others.
Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.
mine still says supplier still has it for days now and a friend of mine has an item in transit that according to the tracking number canada post doesn't have yet i am also expecting to not receive anything
I legitimately got the Swiss Chalet code (and have entered the replacement one so I am not in a negative balance) but my item has still not shipped. My email and FB to them had gone unanswered so I emailed the CEO this morning who forwarded it to Olivia. Since that is the only person who has ever replied to me, I think they have one person answering everything (and likely pulling her hair out)
But in all honesty, the codes were misused. The OP may not have made it clear that this was not meant to be used, but you wouldn't share a reg gift card number just to see if someone could use it too, so I don't think they are to blame (other than I hope they have learned their lesson about unique codes). All of the codes were targetted be it from websaver, divine or swiss chalet, you were supposed to be sent it, none of them were really meant to be generic free for alls
