Thread: SDM return policy issues

I went to SDM today to return some Xmas gifts I bought in November and was told I can not return the items as it had been over 30 days. Has anyone ever had to deal with this issue? I am quite upset as most stores offer an extended return policy for Xmas.....

I can't comment on the 30 day return policy, as I've never tried it.
If it was electronics - most stores say final say, even if never opened (it does differ from store to store though).
If it was holiday related or food/chocolate related, I can definitely see them not taking it back.
As far as extending returns because of Christmas, that's really up to the store. There is no reason why they have to do it, just because other stores do. If I buy presents really early, I know I take the risk of things not working out and not being able to return the items.
You could always try another store, but I think this might be one of the times where you just have to accept the loss. Maybe you could give the gifts for something else?

I got refused Returns with receipt within 30 days at 2 Locations. Complained to customer service. Drove to the store that I purchased from and returned at the cosmetics. A pain in the as* so will not buy from SDM much. Not the first time got refused returns with Brand New never opened items with receipts within 30 days.

I have limited my purchases at SDM because of the difficulty making returns or exchanges. Aside from the 'not being able to do it', there is also the fact that returning or 'exchanging' anything, usually ruins the points rewarded. Even if the product is defective (like a hair straightener that is broken), they have to return it and buy it back. I try not to buy ANYTHING that could need to be returned.
I would shop more if they improved this.

Well I went to another SDM and I was able to return the items. They were cosmetics/perfume. They didn't even look at the date and I didn't say anything. I just can't believe that SDM doesn't have an extended return policy!! Definitely keeping that in mind next time I buy gifts!!
I am going to call head office and give them a piece of mind. I hope more people complain about this and maybe they will do something about it!!

I bought hubby a Xmas gift during the redemption on nov 30. The quality was awful and it was damaged. I returned it on Jan 1. The cashier is looking at the receipt, "um looking for a date"... I said "it was a Xmas gift and it's damaged" she said oh "nov 30" and the manager pipes up and says "that's ok, it's only a day late" I was like phew... I was honestly ready to put up a fight otherwise. Glad you got ur refunds

For cosmetic it is different, some stores do carry these brands and some don't, so they can't really resale if they accept the product they don't carry. Beside that, cosmetic/perfume is usually a big ticket, expensive items so usually you would have to come back to the original store that item was purchased to return it!

Haha, the first store I went to said they do not accept returns on holiday items. My item was a Micromink throw. My receipt never say it was final sale.
The 2nd store said they cannot scan the item as they do not sell it. I told her to try scanning it and the item scanned but she then said the item might be used, she has nowhere to put it, and she doesn't know about the return policy of this item, quite a mouthful.
The 3rd store (the original store I purchased from) I went to the cosmetics and she processed the return. They refused my returns in the past.
Some SDM stores would refuse my returns as it was not purchased from that location, like something worth $5 to $15.
It is ok if any stores give me a hard time/rude. I just don't shop again in the future.Last edited by Mida; Mon, Jan 6th, 2014 at 02:34 PM.
