Kyiv may receive up to 10,000 refugees from Crimea – KCSA head
Head of Kyiv City State Administration (KCSA) Volodymyr Bondarenko has confirmed that Kyiv is ready to receive up to 10,000 refugees from Crimea, the administration's press service reported on Monday.
He also expressed his readiness to take care of the family of the commander of the 204th tactical aviation brigade of the military unit in Belbek, Yuliy Mamchur, who was kidnapped by Russian military.
"Realizing the danger looming over the family of Yuliy Mamchur I simultaneously appeal to the Interior Ministry, the Defense Ministry, the Security Service of Ukraine and other competent authorities to immediately help this family leave the occupied Crimea," Bondarenko said.
The commander of the 204th tactical aviation brigade of the military unit in Belbek, Colonel Mamchur, was kidnapped by Russian servicemen during an assault on the aviation unit in Belbek on March 22.

Fr. Tataryn used to be in Saskatoon with his family, so it's interesting for me to find out where they are now!
He's a parish priest, and also a professor at the Univeristy of Waterloo.

No, not formally kicked out yet, just excluded...
Canada and other Group of Seven leading industrialized nations are cancelling a G8 summit with Russia in Sochi and instead are holding a G7 meeting in Belgium, effectively suspending Moscow from the club over its annexation of Crimea.
The G7, which announced the measures after an emergency meeting on the sidelines of a nuclear security summit in The Hague, stopped short of formally expelling Russia from the G8.
G7 countries described the move as ending participation in the G8 until Moscow reverses itself.
"This group came together because of shared beliefs and shared responsibilities. Russia’s actions in recent weeks are not consistent with them. Under these circumstances, we will not participate in the planned Sochi summit," the G7 leaders said in a statement of the scheduled June meeting.
Russia’s foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov, shrugged off the prospect of exclusion from the Group of Eight shortly before G7 leaders announced their decision, calling it “not a big problem” if the G8 didn’t meet. “If our Western partners think that this format has outlived itself, we are not trying to hold onto this format,” Mr. Lavrov told media in The Hague.
Mr. Harper said he doesn't believe Russia when it insists it does not care about being suspended from the club of industrialized nations and what he called its "increasing diplomatic isolation" over Crimea.
"A regime does not spend $50-billion in the Olympics if it does not care about its international reputation," Mr. Harper said.
The G8 was created in 1998, several years after the Halifax Group of Seven summit where leaders invited then-Russian President Boris Yeltsin to dinner. No country has ever been expelled from the G8.

Ukrainian far-right leader Muzychko dies "in police raid"
Quote:
A Ukrainian ultra-nationalist leader has been shot dead in what officials describe as a special forces operation.
Oleksandr Muzychko, better known as Sashko Bily, died in a shoot-out with police in a cafe in Rivne in western Ukraine, the interior ministry said.
He was a leader of Right Sector, a far-right group which was prominent in the recent anti-government protests.
Meanwhile, Ukraine's parliament has voted to accept the resignation of Defence Minister Ihor Tenyukh.
Mr Tenyukh had been accused of indecision in the face of Russia's military takeover of Crimea.
The shooting of Muzychko happened just hours after Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov had held talks with his Ukrainian counterpart Andriy Deshchytsia - their first meeting since Russia's move into Crimea triggered a diplomatic crisis
Darth, I read up on him last night - quite the controversial figure.

Good news - (the previously mentioned) Colonel Mamchur, along with several other Ukrainian military commanders in Crimea, was recently released from captivity and are already on mainland Ukraine.
MARCH 27, 2014
UNITED NATIONS — In the first barometer of global condemnation of Russia’s annexation of Crimea, Ukraine and its Western backers persuaded a large majority of countries in the United Nations General Assembly on Thursday to dismiss the annexation as illegal, even as Russia sought to rally world support for the idea of self-determination.
The resolution, proposed by Ukraine and backed by the United States and the European Union, represented the latest effort to isolate President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia over the annexation, which followed a March 16 referendum in the peninsula that has been internationally regarded as Ukrainian territory.
