Worst shelling in a week in eastern Ukraine
KYIV, Ukraine – Eastern Ukraine has suffered the worst violence in more than a week as fighting between pro-Russian rebels and government troops in the region killed at least 12 people and wounded 32, officials said Monday.
Col. Andriy Lysenko told journalists in a briefing in Kyiv on Monday that at least nine troops had been killed in a day and 27 had been wounded.
Meanwhile, the city council of Donetsk said in a statement published online that at least three civilians were killed and five wounded in overnight shelling of a residential area in the northern part of the city, where fighting has centred on the government-held airport.

On Sunday, in the second-largest Ukrainian city, Kharkiv, nationalists tore down an enormous statue of Vladimir Lenin to cheers from the crowd. Across Ukraine, people have torn down statues to the former Communist leader in a symbolic display of anti-Russian sentiment.
The authorities in Kharkiv supported the move. Arsen Avakov, Ukraine’s Minister of Internal Affairs and a Kharkiv native, wrote on his Facebook page: “Lenin? Let him fall… As long as nobody gets hurt.”

Petro Poroshenko: Ukraine Will Not Allow Fascism and Persecution along Ethnic Lines
Today, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko took part in the ceremony of commemoration of the victims of the Babi Yar tragedy at the National Reserve “Babi Yar”. Petro Poroshenko and members of the Ukrainian government, as well as other officials, laid flowers at the monument to the citizens and prisoners of war shot by the Nazis at Babi Yar. All participants commemorated the victims with a moment of silence.
On September 29, 1941, mass executions of civilians started in Kyiv occupied by the Nazis. During two days nearly 34,000 people had been killed, most of them Jewish.
Ukraine’s President assured that “Ukraine will never allow recovery of fascism, persecution along ethnic, language, religious or other lines.” This day is a reminder to the world of how dangerous the war is and how important and valuable the peace is.

Popasna after today's shelling from Konstantin Reutskiy... This is the 25th day of the so-called "ceasefire"
The city was shelled with about 20 Grad rockets from 9:25 до 10:00. Medics say that one man was killed and a woman heavily injured. As a result of the shelling, the building of the printing house and the garage of the ambulance was burnt down. The ambulance station lost 2 out of 3 cars. Some popasnians are gathering the rocket shards made out of titanium to sell it as scrap metal. In a city where pensions and salaries are not being paid three months already, this provides at least some revenue.
The mayor of Popasna Yuriy Onishchenko says that today's shelling is connected to the visit of the new head of Luhansk Oblast administration - Hennadiy Moskal: the terrorists wanted to make clear to the new governor that he is not an authority for them.

Another Lenin is down in Svatove, Luhansk Oblast, Ukraine!
Svatovo is a town in Luhansk Region on the North from Luhansk. It has always been under Ukrainian control. Couple of times pro-Russians tried to go there, but they were kicked back by locals and after the conflict did grow into a war, the city became main base for State Administration that was evacuated from Luhansk.

Terrorists sever POW’s hand for “Glory to Ukraine” tattoo, survives
Vasyl Pelysh returned to his home in the Lviv oblast after having fallen captive to terrorists. This young man, only 19 years old, suffered a month of torture as a prisoner of war. The separatists were outraged at the discovery of the phrase “Glory to Ukraine” tattooed on his arm, and for this they punished him by cutting off his hand.
From the video:
“In the East this young man fought with the Aidar Battalion. On August 24 he was caught in an ambush of enemy tanks as he attempted to drive a wounded brother in arms to safety in a vehicle that was marked with a red cross.” In his own words, Pelysh explains that “I went in that direction expecting to find our position. They tricked me.” Casting his eyes downward and speaking in an even tone, he revealed that “I wish I at least had had a grenade in my possession so that I could have destroyed them with me. I started yelling for Aidar, but instead they came after me with automatic rifles, demanding my identity. I told them, Aidar, and they replied they have others like me.”
The narrator continues that “Vasyl explained how much the terrorists hate Aidar, and then when they noticed on his right arm a tattoo with the words, ‘Glory to Ukraine,’ they were enraged so much that they cut off his hand.”
Vasyl added that “When they took me under guard to the hospital, the medics couldn’t believe that I was still alive, because they know how much hatred there is for the battalion. We have been very successful against the terrorists and prevent them from staging military actions.”
The narrator explains how “he recovered in hospital from his wounds. He was treated well by the doctors, except for the daily and painful interrogations to which he was subjected by the terrorists. Just a few days ago arrangements were made for his release in a prisoner exchange.”
