Yuriy was born in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast on May 1, 1994. He served as commander of a combat vehicle in the 3rd Battalion of the 72nd Separate Mechanized Brigade. Yuriy leaves behind his grieving parents, brother and fiancée.

Andriy was born in Khorol, Poltava Oblast on July 30, 1991. He served in the 72nd Separate Motorized Brigade. Andriy leaves behind his grieving mother.

Yulian Tsyhanko passed away in Kyiv’s Central Hospital in the morning of October 16, 2018.

Yulian was born in 1975 in Lviv. He served in the 24th Separate Mechanized Brigade, fighting in the front lines from the first days of the war.

Seriously wounded on November 3, 2015, Yulian was treated in different hospitals in Ukraine and twice in Austria. He underwent over 50 operations. He fell into a coma on October 4 and was hospitalized in the ICU of Kyiv’s Central Hospital.

Anton Mospan was killed by a sniper bullet near Krymske, Luhansk Oblast on October 15, 2018.

Anton was born on December 24, 1991 in Cherkasy. He was drafted in 2015 and served as senior sergeant in the 8th Battalion of the 10th Mountain Assault Brigade.

• The Background

A devastating attack struck the Russian-annexed country of Crimea yesterday, killing at least 19 and injuring at least 40more. Apparently an18-year-old student ofKerch Polytechnic college, named Vladislav Roslyakov,ran through the halls firing his weapon at fellow students before eventually turning the gun on himself. Though details are still being pieced together, Russian law enforcement reported that the suspect also detonated a bomb "filled with metal objects" in the school's cafeteria before he startedshooting.BBC News

• What Else You Need to Know

Though the incident was tragic and had devastating results, it could have been much worse. Police found a second device among Roslyakov'spersonal possessions, which they were able to disarm. The attack had originally been described as a terrorist attack, but authorities later changed their statement, calling it a "mass murder." Sources who knew the gunman said he had developed "a hostile attitude" towards the school and vowed "revenge" on his teachers.

President Vladimir Putin announced that there would be three days of mourning in Crimea, starting today.

Lt. Col. Seth “Jethro” Nehring, an Air National Guard member from California was killed along with Ukrainian military pilot Ivan Petrenko in a Ukrainian Su-27UB fighter crash Tuesday evening in Ukraine during the large-scale military aviation exercise "Clear Skies," which is taking part in Western Ukraine.


The pilots were flying a Su fighter jet, a Soviet model which had undergone capital repairs a few months before "Clear skies 2018" and according to preliminary data had no technical problems.


Exercise Clear Sky 2018 is a joint and multinational exercise that involves approximately 950 personnel from nine nations, including Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Ukraine, the United Kingdom, and the United States. One of the goals of the exercises is to familiarize pilots of different countries with different models of fighter planes.


An investigation into the reasons of the crash is pending.

Toronto has officially unveiled its Holodomor Memorial in a ceremony held Sunday, October 21.Mr. Mykola Lathysko, a #Holodomor survivor who had emigrated to Canada, recounted his experience and told the crowd at the ceremony: "As Christians, we should be able to forgive but we should never forget."
