    Greetings :D

I was looking into getting my sister one of those coffee makers for Christmas (like the Tassimo or Nespresso kind of things). Thing is, I know very little about coffee machines or coffee. I think she wants one that can froth stuff or something though. Any suggestions? I've looked at a few and I've noticed that they vary in price a lot. Is it worth buying a more expensive model? I guess something else I should keep in mind is the price of the little disc/cup things as well. (I don't really know what I'm talking about here lol)

If anyone knows of any good deals and can give some suggestions that'd be appreciated! Looking for value here

    Thanks in advance.

It seems Keurig has really taken over the market when it comes to single serve coffee makers. Not sure if this would work for you, but Walmart's big sale starts Dec 24th and they have a good model on for $99. Here is the flyer: http://flyers.smartcanucks.ca/canada...deals/single/7

Thanks for all of the responses so far
It would seem that a Keurig is the one to get then Just to double check, it can make regular coffee, right? (like with loose coffee grind)
Is the Keurig at Target the exact same one at Walmart?

I don't drink coffee either, so my two cents based on my family. If she wants a frothy one, do TAssimo or Nespresso. Keurig does regular drip coffee. DH likes drip, he's got a Keurig. They have a lot of plain or flavoured coffees. It does not froth. You need to buy a separate milk frother if you want that.

My Mom and dad are Italian. They drink espressos and caffe latte and they love their Tassimo. They'll drink drip coffee but prefer espresso, and will not TOUCH flavoured coffees, so a Keurig would just collect dust at their house.

Both households are happy with their machines, because it meets their needs

Agree with TOgal, it depends on needs. If she likes frothy drinks, like you said, then the Tassimo or the Nespresso is the way to go. I personally love my Keurig. I won mine at an office christmas party and now I don't buy the single use cups because I have a re-usable one that I fill with coffee grounds. I also like my Keurig because you can run straight water through it which is great for when you're making a single cup of tea or oatmeal or when I'm sick and make a neo-citran. I don't know much about Nespressos, but the Tassimo will not run unless it has a barcode (ie, has to have a disc, whereas the Keurig does not need a K-Cup to run), which is why I usually suggest the Keurig, it just has a few more uses. But in this case, if she wants frothy drinks then I think you should go with the Tassimo.

Giant Tiger used to sell mini-hand frothers. I bought one for $2. It takes a AA battery and works really well

Ok, I ended up placing an order for the T-20 which was only $40. The reviews looked pretty good. Did I make the right decision? (I can still cancel the order.)

I'm about to but some t-discs now as well. They seem kinda pricey though. What kind of deals are usually offered on these? I see some on sale half off on Futureshop/Bestbuy that I may buy. Also, any flavour recommendations?

    Thanks again!

I find the k-cup/t-discs get real expensive over time... all fun in the beginning but when you realize that can be spending 50 cents to $1 per cup...when with the k-cups and use the filter and use any brand we want.. I love it!

You can run hot water and make hot chocolate and cup-a-soup with the keurig.

Yes, I ended up buying the Tassimo and t-discs online. Didn't have much selection though (all but 2 flavours were out of stock).

Thanks everyone for the help! I hope she likes the coffee when the discs arrive in the mail.

I bought CBTL, and I wish I went for Keurig, much more options (CBTL limited with its brand selection).

I have had both. I did not like how any of the tassimo products tasted. They all tasted artificial to be, or chemically. I love my keurig. I love the coffee and tea selection. I love that there is options for different sizes. I love everything about it. I have yet to try one of the reusable k-cups where you but your own coffee in it.
