I got a weird call yesterday from a male supposedly from Microsoft support centre. He wanted my permission to fix an error on our laptop saying it's proned to virus etc..says we should have seen notices that PC is no longer protected etc. I took his name & number.. He gave me a local #( in Ohio) & not a 1 800 # ..i told him i wouldn't but will have my hubby call, he then wanted to know when my husband would call & I told him I don't know..I asked him for his personal tel #(since everyone these days seem to have a cell) but he says to call the bus # & they can confirm he works there( for all I care that could be any Jo schmo co)...that made me suspicious & I felt it was odd to get such call..may be a hacker etc???? Red s !!!!!!Anyone ever got such call??? What do you make of this for all those who may have experience with PC repairs etc ???
thanks in advance for all replies. This thread is currently associated with: MicrosoftLast edited by Shirnette; Tue, Feb 4th, 2014 at 08:20 AM.

No, don't do it! They are phishing - they want to get access to your computer, then they can remotely access it for their own dastardly ends...

This is a known scam. No one EVER would call you out of the blue saying your computer has issues. As Natalka says, if they get your co-operation they will have you install remote access software (something like TeamViewer) which will allow them full control and access of your computer whenever they want it.

You did the right thing by telling them you'd need to check. Like everyone has said, it's a scam and they're looking for access to your computer. Once they have access, you're done. Do not call them back and if they call again, flat out tell them no, everything is fine with your computer and if they keep pushing, hang up.

Had that call twice, waiting for a third time as I want to mess with them and tell them that for legal purposes all calls are being monitored and recorded due to a criminal investigation and see how quickly they hang up.
