Scope coupon issue at Target!
First off, I thought it was amusing how many of the top threads in this section have Walmart in the title :excited:
This happened yesterday at Target. I had gone a few times this week to get the Crest/Scope deal with coupons, and yesterday I was using up my last 2 of each. Up until then, I hadn't had any issues with the coupons. When I went in, it was in the morning and my only options were self-checkout, or Customer Service. I chose CS as I had a PM that I wanted to, plus the coupons have to be entered by staff anyway. So as we were going through the order, this lady was really STINGY! She was reading each coupon, commenting on almost all of them. I gave her all of the Target coupons first, because I have found before that if you redeem a lot of coupons in a single order, the Target ones won't scan in towards the end, so they have to enter it manually meaning you pay more tax. Anyway, as she had already done the Crest/Scope Target coupons, when she came to Crest $1 coupons she wasn't happy. The Crest I bought were $1.67 and the Scope were $2.29 each. So she said, "you already used a coupon for this, and I can't take off more than it costs". I commented that the store coupon was on the package and not specifically the Crest. She just accepted it and continued. Then, when it came to the Scope, she refused to accept it. I think that she just thought I was getting overage, because why of all of the coupons I used would she get so annoyed about a 75 cent coupon. She says, "I can't accept that coupon, it says 'any scope rinse' and this bottle says mouthwash. You need to get that one, the rinse" as she points to the bottle pictured on the coupon. I didn't want to argue, so I went ahead and took my coupons back and paid. Then, I turned around and walked back to the oral hygiene aisle, and checked the bottle of Scope Outlast (from the picture) and sure enough, it says "mouthwash" as well. So I brought it back to her, and showed her. She said, "no it says rinse, right there"... I said "rince-bouche is French for mouthwash". At that point she decided to find a new argument. She studied the back of the coupon and said "it says 'brand specific', it has to be Scope Outlast". I argued that Scope is the brand, and Outlast is just a line of their products. She checked with her supervisor, and he said that the coupon was fine. But did she accept that? Nope, not yet! :excited: She studied the back of the coupon again, and said "it can't be accepted on the travel size... is this travel size?" (it was 250 mL), I told her that it isn't. She asked me if it's a value pack... I said no. She asked if it's a gift pack... I said no. Finally she accepted that the coupon was valid on that product (or that I wouldn't leave her alone until she refunded me), so she refunded me and re-sold it with the coupon. But really, did it have to be that difficult?! It was as if I was trying to steal from the store  I know that if you look at it as $1 off the Crest and the Scope each from the Target coupon, then technically I am getting "overage" from the manufacturer coupon. However, since it's a 'package' deal, there is no overage; I still paid $0.46 for the package.
Any way, this didn't discourage me from shopping at Target, as she is the only cashier I have had an issue with. I just know to avoid her
I may write to the company (P&G) and suggest that they change the wording on their coupons to say "wash" instead of "rinse" as the bottles actually say mouthwash, though even if it had said wash, I probably would have still had an issue.
