I'm actually not sure where it goes to get sorted. I will have to find out so that I know for future. Canada Post sometimes is so strange. It can take me a week to get something just locally or even 8 hrs away yet something from New Brunswick gets to me quicker....its ridiculous.

You're so right boberrymom. I was in a conversation with with a local CP employee after CP lost my amazon.ca package, and was told that mail here (Sudbury, ON), is shipped to Toronto for sorting now, and thus something mailed in the city, takes approximately 4 days (or more...) to get delivered. Now I see why stamps are increasing so much! Ridiculous, I say!

Oh that sucks. When I was growing up (years ago now) the mail was sorted in Sudbury, so local mail moved quickly. I remember going on a field trip to the PO when I was in grade 5 and seeing the sorting machines.

We still have mail sorted locally here in Ottawa, and while within the city mail usually takes 2 days, I have mailed something in the afternoon to a friend on the other side of town and she has received the next day. But this might only be for letter mail and oversized letter mail. I know that for parcels that are going out of the country there are only three sorting facilities in Canada (Montreal, Vancouver and maybe Winnipeg?), but am not sure if that is the case for Canadian destined parcels.

This is a VERY recent thing here, which is why I was shocked to hear it. I suppose it's a part of the job cuts etc. But it's good to be in the know, regardless of where you are. Thanks for more info, and you're lucky with regards to local mail!

Unfortunetely CP can be this slow! Let's give it a couple more days with our fingers crossed. We are also still waiting on Bluzsuz's car.
