This. I have a friend who's a cabinet-maker and he never buys from Lee Valley. He says Lee Valley is for the DIY hobbyist. Anyone working in the trades can get the same products at a cheaper price somewhere else.

Lee valley doesn't offer volume discounts that would benefit a cabinetmaker, so i agree on that point. On the other hand, some of the sources where cabinetmakers go for the same hardware you have to have an account set up and buy in bulk amounts more than the average person needs. I am a cabinet/furniture maker and i buy from lee valley.

However they no longer have free shipping events and they jack you on the price of shipping. A store like Future Shop/Best Buy offers free shipping over $20 and next day delivery in urban areas. Now that's great shipping! But Lee Valley actually charges you more for shipping, the more you buy. That's lousy shipping.

They actually have free shipping events several times a year ( just had one a couple weeks ago)

Yes but with a minimum purchase requirement (that they used to not do)

$40 min. purchase is not hard to do shopping there...

The slight April catalogue arrived this week (did not see gardening catalogue in February) and saw the insert about the new Vaughan store. Extended hours until June 14 at the Vaughan store, if you are in Toronto East.
