I believe the lower income spouse is the one that must claim the child care costs. I think either of you can claim the kids and the fitness and arts credits-perhaps try it both ways in an on line program to see if one is more advantageous to one of you although I think with tax credits there is usually not much difference

you should allow the lower income spouse to claim all that. also make sure that person applies for the child tax/gst if they have never done so before

Bottom half of page 1 of the T1 income tax return has a question asking if you are applying to for the HST/GST benefit. The person claiming it in your family should check that box on his/her return.
