it was really the only explanation.
How terribly unfortunate for the occupants of that plane; I wonder if they'll be held hostage now or...worse..:(

Unbelievable. I hope and pray for the lives of the innocent.

Some very interesting photos and insights into the search teams and rescue operations here:

"The White House said the U.S. may be drawn into a new phase of the search in the vast Indian Ocean but did not offer details. A Pentagon official in the U.S. told ABC News that the destroyer USS Kidd would be moved to the Indian Ocean, which would take 24 hours."
"If the jetliner did stray into the Indian Ocean, a vast expanse with depths of more than 7,000 metres (23,000 feet), the task faced by searchers would become dramatically more difficult. Winds and currents could shift any surface debris tens of nautical miles within hours, dramatically widening the search area with each passing day.“Ships alone are not going to get you that coverage, helicopters are barely going to make a dent in it and only a few countries fly P-3s (long-range search aircraft),” William Marks, spokesman for the U.S. Seventh Fleet, told Reuters.
“So this massive expanse of water space will be the biggest challenge.”

Satellite "handshakes" (pings) indicate that the plane could have veered off into these
two directions...

Yes, this is just creepy. Straight out of a spy movie! To be honest, if I had to face my end this way, I think I would rather crash into the sea than deal with the thought of landing somewhere and having hijackers do God knows what :sad-new: I keep having visions of a firing squad or something! I mean, knowing you've been hijacked and having to sit through another 6-7 hours of flight not knowing what will happen next! Sorry to put that into anyone's thoughts, but it's just so so scary. If it truly was hijacked and not crashed into the Bay of Bengal or somewhere like the US said recently, what did they want?? The plane or some of the passangers on board? And still, what about the rest of those poor people?

Honestly, it's almost better to have been dead then to have to sit on an airplane for hours and hours knowing you'll eventually die.
I'm sorta loosing hope that they'll ever find the plane. I read an article that equated looking for an airplane in the indian ocean to looking for a 2foot toy plane in the state of texas or a grain of salt at Disneyland. That's pretty taunting.
lecale... can you explain your comment about the pilots being paid off for stealing the plane a little more.
im not quite seeing the point to that one.

Thought this was interesting.....

I wonder if it was a hijacking, what were they going to do with the plane, or if it did land, what are they going to do with the plane?
