@macw1960 Do you know if your neighbours have any of those " cooling or heating protection plans " included in their bill?
Also do you or they rent or own your water heater?

With the minimum wages going up tomorrow in Ontario, @Shwa Girl , expect to see some prices going up in various categories (hope gas prices drop 10c or more per litre soon). Not in the same category as heating costs but my favourite US magazine went up $1 (now $3.99) and only Walmart seems to carry (Fortinos and Shoppers seem to be out of the sales as of previous issue). I'll have to return to the store to buy it as I only had enough cash on hand based on the old price.

They might have a natural gas dryer, and use a lot of hot water and/or have it set at a higher temperature (do they have teenagers?) Also their furnace could be older - and not as energy efficient as yours (could be only 50-80% efficient) and have equipment added to their bill such as a new furnace or a/c unit. Some people crank up their furnaces in the winter and/or are energy hogs or your neighbours home might have less insulation than yours. Lastly they may have signed up with a different energy co instead of union gas and have higher rates.

Saturday newspapers both had ads from the Ontario Energy Board about Enbridge and Union Gas proposing to merge into one entity. Customers have until December 20, 2017 to comment on the proposal. The plan is to take effect in 2019.

Guess that this had to be coming after Enbridge Inc. bought Spectra Energy (parent company of Union Gas) and deal was finalized this past spring and with requisite job losses. http://www.cbc.ca/news/business/enbr...deal-1.3749340

I guess 1 less door to door guys going around scamming people into signing up for Hydro & Heating Gas deals !
Its funny I am with Enbridge, and someone a year back came on my door - very rude, pushy, aggressive & obnoxious trying to switch me over to Union gas ! He was lying about the rates & contract & everything. Basically trying to scam me.
And now they are one company..LOL
